Ice cream fund raiser on tap Saturday
Friends of Harrison will hold an ice cream social fund raiser for Sharla "Charlie" Harrison, candidate for Cape Girardeau County public administrator, from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at 1620 Ridgeway Drive (off Cape Rock Drive between Kingshighway and Perryville Road). Cake, ice cream, games and fellowship will be available to draw support for Harrison's candidacy.

Municipal band to play Bennett ballads Thursday
The Jackson Municipal Band will hold a concert at 8 p.m. July 15 at the Jackson City Park Band Shell, Route D. Mark Rees, a 1977 Jackson High School graduate, will be the special guest performing country western music. The band, featuring the saxophone, will play a variety of musical selections including marches and Tony Bennett hits.

Greatest hearing loss could win free hearing aid
Heartland Hearing Specialists, in cooperation with the Jackson Senior Center, is sponsoring a contest for individuals to win a hearing instrument complete with batteries, evaluations, hearing aid examination, dispensing fees, ear impressions and/or ear molds, and post fitting evaluations and adjustments. The winner, entitled to unlimited office visits, including maintenance, will be judged by calculating who has the greatest hearing loss of those who sign up to be tested. Hearing evaluations will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 16 and 23. Anyone who does not have hearing correction is welcome to participate. Ladies Aid sponsoring quilt program
St. Paul Ladies Aid of Jackson is sponsoring "Tablescapes" and "Quilt Turning" programs on July 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Quilt turning will begin at 11 a.m in St. Paul's Fellowship Hall. Quilts from old to new will be featured. Tablescapes will be contemporary, decorated in Depression glass and dishes from grandmother and great-grandmother.
