AARP to meet today for history program

The AARP Cape Girardeau County Chapter 4041 will meet for a history program at 1:30 p.m. today at Grace United Methodist Church at Broadway and Caruthers Avenue. The program is "Important but Unknown People from Cape Girardeau's Past," presented by Dr. Frank Nickell. There will be a door prize drawing.

Clingingsmith-Craft reunion set for Sunday

The annual Clingingsmith-Craft reunion will begin with a noon basket dinner Sunday on the lower level of the Knights of Columbus hall at U.S. 61 North in Jackson. All relatives and friends are invited. For more information, call 243-6350.

Friedheim Fun Fest to benefit horse group

A trail ride on gravel roads will kick off the ninth annual Freidheim Fun Fest at 10 a.m. July 19 across the road from Trinity Lutheran Church in Friedheim. Funds raised will benefit the Mississippi Valley Therapeutic Horsemanship, a group that gives disabled children and adults the opportunity to improve physically, learn new skills and achieve cognitive, behavioral and psychological goals. A potluck supper will be held at 6 p.m. Attendees should bring drinks, meat, vegetable or dessert and a lawn chair. Table service will be provided. Music begins at 6 p.m., and entertainment will be provided by volunteers. Funds raised will be matched by Thrivent. For more information, call 573-788-2890.

Nussbaum reunion, dinner set for July 27

The annual Nussbaum reunion and covered dish dinner will begin with a meal at 12:30 p.m. July 27 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilsit. At 2 p.m. there will be bingo with prizes. Drinks, table service and water balloons for the children will be provided. Attendees are encouraged to bring table games, cards or outdoor games.

Cape woman earns pinto title at event

TULSA, Okla. — Melissa Haberkorn of Cape Girardeau recently earned a reserve world championship title in amateur novice English pleasure and a seventh-place finish in amateur novice disciplined rail English at the 43rd annual Pinto World Championship Show in Tulsa. The 12-day competition showcased talents of equines and their exhibitors in jumping, reining, driving, roping, pleasure and halter.
