Jeff Brown memorial fund established to help family
A memorial fund has been established to help the family of Jeff Brown, who died recently, leaving behind excessive medical bills and a need for home repairs. Contributions may be made to the Jeff Brown Memorial Fund at any Bank of America.
A picnic will be held at New Hamburg from 5 to 11:30 p.m. July 15 and 3 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. July 16 featuring music, food and games. Music and karaoke by Renegade Sound System will be available Friday and Saturday evening. A smorgasbord dinner will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the St. Lawrence Parish Center. Dinner menu includes fried chicken, chicken and dumplings, roast beef and gravy with all the trimmings. Children 5 and under eat free. Talent contest begins at 3 p.m. for the junior division and 4 p.m. for the senior division Saturday. There is an entry fee. Forms, which must be returned by Friday, may be obtained by calling 545-3317. Turtle races at 6 p.m. Saturday; 7 p.m. kid's tractor pull. There will be games and a petting zoo on site.
The Trail of Tears State Park has made plans for several programs free to the public. Individuals wishing to check on program changes may call the park office at 334-1711. Groups of 10 or more should contact the park office to allow for planning. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Meet at the visitor center unless otherwise noted.

Students of the former Limbaugh School will hold a reunion at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at Delmonico's in Jackson.

A safe home canning workshop will answer questions about accuracy and safety regarding preservation of food from 6:30 to 8 p.m. July 14 at the Cape Girardeau County Extension Center, 684 Jackson Trail, Jackson. A video presentation, question and answer session and jelly making demonstration will be included. Pressure canner gauge testing will also be available. The workshop is free and those that preregister will receive free educational materials on canning. Call the Cape Girardeau Extension Center at 243-3581 by July 12.
The Civil War Roundtable program will include Mike Jones, Logan Museum curator from Murphysboro, Ill., at 2 p.m. July 19 at Hanover Lutheran Church.
The Southeast Council on Philanthropy will meet at 11:30 a.m. July 28 at Southeast Missouri Hospital. The program, presented by Kathleen Osborn, executive director of the Regional Business Council in St. Louis, is "Initiating and Developing Corporate Relationships." The Regional Business Council is a consortium of CEOs who pool their resources to support high impact business, civic and philanthropic efforts. The Southeast Council on Philanthropy is an organization for development professionals who want to network and increase fund raising competencies. For information, call Denise at 334-7741.
The Crader reunion was held recently at Cape County Park with about 100 in attendance including individuals from out of state, the Cape Girardeau/Jackson areas, St. Louis, Marble Hill and outlying areas in Missouri. Business concerning the cemetery included the election of five family members as board of directors: Harold Crader, president, David Hurley, treasurer; Joyce Partain, secretary; and Dennis Hurst Sr. and Sadie Estes, members at large. The event raised $600 for cemetery maintenance. Oldest descendant present was Bernard Crader, 93, a resident of the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau. Youngest descendant, 5 months old, was Anna Amelunke of Fredericktown, Mo., the daughter of Devin and Christy Amelunke. Traveling over 700 miles from Spring, Texas, were Boyd Crafton and his daughter, Audrey. The next reunion is scheduled for the second Sunday in June 2006.
