Summer reading club meets Tuesday
Beginning at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, the summer reading club will present a "Puppet Show @ the Library." Charlotte Reid and Puppet Power will entertain with puppets, action songs and silly songs. Anyone with questions can call Lynn Farrow at 243-8141.
Parents Without Partners plans Fourth of July event
Parents Without Partners will have a picnic and fireworks for everyone from 4 to 10:30 p.m. Friday at a Jackson City Park, near the band shelter. Call 335-0797 for more information.
Scholarship Garden set for Saturday
The Downtown Merchants Association Scholarship Garden sales will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Boardman Pavilion across from Hutson's in Old Town Cape.
The organically-raised vegetables are grown in a raised bed garden located in the alley between Spanish, Lorimier, Merriwether and Independence streets. All of the proceeds are donated to the DMA Scholarship Fund.
For the last two years the garden sales have raised approximately $2,000 for a scholarship at Southeast Missouri State University, according to Bill Dunn, current DMA president and garden steward. The garden sales will be held each Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m. until the end of the season.
Emerson's mobile office to visit area communities
The mobile office of U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson (R-Mo.) will hit the road again this month.
From 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. July 10, Emerson's mobile office will be at the Library in Marble Hill, Mo.; from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Chamber of Commerce in Jackson.
Cape Public Library announces schedule
The Cape Girardeau Public Library has announced several upcoming activities:
From 10 to 10:30 a.m. today the library's youth services will hold "Hands On" book, fun craft and activities for 3- to 5-year-olds. Music is the theme of "Sounds Like Fun." We'll be making finger cymbals and tambourines. Registration required.
From 2 to 3 p.m. today the library's youth services will hold "Kids Can 2" book, fun crafts and activities for grades one through three. Activities include make-it-yourself Mr. Potato Head. Registration required. Call 334-5279 for more information.-- From staff reports
