Perryville's Heritage Days begin Friday evening

Perryville's Heritage Days will be ushered in beginning at 5 p.m. Friday with cocktails and a 6 p.m. meal at Seminary Picnic Grounds on Route T. Max Armstrong will be the keynote speaker. An auction will benefit Perryville High School's FFA. Beginning at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, the River Hills Antique Tractor Club will hold a 41-mile adventure beginning and ending at Seminary Picnic Grounds. Insect Mania program to be held at Nature Center

The Cape Girardeau County Nature Center will hold "Insect Mania," a program on insects that sting and bite, from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. An educational presentation on bees with activities including making beeswax will be available for participants. Games centered around insects, insect hats made from balloons and face painting are also on the agenda. Be prepared for close insect observation and an insect pageant. Jackson Band to hold last concerts of season

The Jackson Municipal Band will perform its final weekly concert at 8 p.m. Aug. 3 at Jackson City Park, with a final concert Aug. 10 at the gazebo on the courthouse lawn. Steve Schaffner, one of the area's premier fiddlers, will be the Aug. 3 guest. The band's portion of the concert will include hits from Disney movies and a collection of great rock-'n'-roll hits. Bring a lawn chair or blanket.

AmeriCorps VISTA members needed

The Community Caring Council is seeking two individuals to serve as AmeriCorps VISTA employees to be involved with the Missouri Re-entry project. This project will coordinate community resources to assist people scheduled for release from state correctional facilities into our communities. County genealogical society to hold book sale

The Cape Girardeau County Genealogical Society will hold a book sale at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 8 at the Cape Girardeau County Archive Center, 112 E. Washington St. in Jackson. A book list is available at the Archive Center. The Cape Girardeau County Genealogical Society meets bimonthly on the fourth Tuesday. Nonmembers are welcome at all meetings. Class of 1991 to hold reunion at K.C. Hall

A Jackson High School class of 1991 reunion will be held Aug. 12 at the Knights of Columbus hall on U.S. 61 in Jackson. Freemasons to hold child identification program

The Freemasons of Southeast Missouri will hold a free comprehensive child identification program from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m Aug. 19 at the Bootheel Youth Museum in Malden, Mo. The program is designed to give Missouri families a measure of protection against the problem of missing and abducted children. It consists of digital photographs and fingerprints, child information and emergency contacts, dental bite impression and two laminated identification cards. Cape Public Library to show foreign film

The foreign film "A Peck on the Cheek," directed by Mani Ratnam of India, will be shown at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 22 in the Hirsch Community Room at the Cape Girardeau Public Library. The film has English subtitles, is suggested for those 17 and older and runs approximately 136 minutes. Admission is free. For more information, call 334-5279.
