Cape library presents program on pet care
Cheryle Dillon, events and outreach coordinator for the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri, will present "Pet Care" at 7 p.m. today at the Cape Girardeau Public Library's Hirsch Community Room. The program is free and suitable for the whole family. Members of the summer reading program who bring an item for the Humane Society's "Begging List" will be eligible to enter a special prize drawing.
COBDEN, Ill. -- Fuzzy's Bar and Grill, 106 N. Front St., will hold a benefit auction at 7 p.m. Saturday. Proceeds will be used to provide programs and services for more than 35,000 people in a 90-county area whose lives are affected by multiple sclerosis. The Fruitland Fire Department will hold a building dedication and open house from 1 to 4 p.m. July 30 at fire station No. 1, 7273 U.S. 61, Jackson. The public is invited.
AARP will hold a safety driving program class at the Bank of Missouri building, 3247 William St., near Cape Girardeau Wal-Mart from noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 7 and 9. Attendance at both is required for a certificate of completion.
Due to defeat at the recent Community Counseling Center Foundation doctor/lawyer basketball game, the lawyers have challenged the doctors to a softball game. The doctor/lawyer softball game will begin with a tailgate party at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 19 at Arena Park Field No. 10 in Cape Girardeau. Game time is 6 p.m. Pregame activities include a home-run hitting contest, raffle and attendance prizes. Tickets will be discounted for children under 12. Proceeds from the game will benefit the treatment of mental illness in the area. The participants hope to make this a yearly event. Refreshments will be available at the tailgate party. Tickets can be purchased in advance at any Community Counseling Center location or at the game.
