Genealogy society donates to Cape library
The Cape Girardeau County Genealogy Society has donated "American State Papers and Grassroots of America" to the Cape Girardeau Public Library. The nine-volume set pertains to land claims and claims against the government. The set can benefit individuals searching for information on ancestors in Missouri and other states before the Louisiana Purchase of 1803. The volumes are available for research but may not be checked out. These materials are also located at Southeast Missouri State University's Kent Library, the county Archives Center and Riverside Regional Library.
Millersville school students plan to reunite
A reunion for all who attended Millersville School will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Delmonico's in Jackson.
Car wash to benefit Humane Society
The Humane Society car wash planned for July 3 was cancelled due to rain. It has been rescheduled from 11a.m.to 2 p.m. Saturday at Crowe Orthodontics on Broadway in Cape Girardeau. All proceeds benefit the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri.
Kester family reuniting Sunday in Friedheim
The Kester family reunion will begin with a basket dinner at noon Sunday at the Parish Hall of Trinity Lutheran Church in Friedheim.
Speaker to offer program on Civil War leaders
The Cape Girardeau County Chapter of the Civil War Round Table will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Fellowship Room, Hanover Lutheran Church, 2949 Perryville Road, Cape Girardeau.The program, presented by Dr. John Y. Simon, curator for the Southern Illinois University Grant Collection, will be "Grant, Lincoln and Halleck: The Development of Union Command and Control." All invited. Historical and genealogy society to meet Tuesday
The Scott City Historical and Genealogy Society will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Cape Girardeau County Archive Center, 112 E. Washington, north of the courthouse. Jackson Municipal Band concert set for July 22
The band's weekly concert will be held at 8 p.m. July 22 at the gazebo on the courthouse lawn. Special guest will be Julie Walker of Jackson. Walker's original songs are reflective and poetic. She performs for all occasions and serves in music ministry at New McKendree United Methodist Church. Bring a lawn chair or blanket.
Walk/run to benefit victims of violence
Southeast Missouri Hospital and Syntrax Innovations are sponsors of the fourth annual "Going the Distance for Victims of Violence Walk/Run." The event begins at 7:30 a.m. July 24 at the First Presbyterian Church, located at Broadway and Lorimier Street in Cape Girardeau. Registration begins at 6:30 a.m.; pre-registered runners get T-shirts.
Contra dance on tap at Christ Episcopal Church
Cape Friends of Traditional Music and Dance will hold a contra dance from 7 to 9:30 p.m. July 24 at Christ Episcopal Church, 101 N. Fountain St., Cape Girardeau. No partner, costume or experience is necessary. The dances feature live, old-time fiddle and a caller who teaches and prompts the dances. Training available to become Master Gardener
Individuals interested in core course level I training to become Master Gardeners may call the Bollinger or Cape Girardeau County Extension office to have your name placed on a list for classes beginning at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 26. The annual Nussbaum family reunion will begin with a basket dinner at 12:30 p.m. July 25 at Immanuel Lutheran Church Parish Hall, 496 Route F, Tilsit. Beverages and tableware will be provided.
