Rural restoration group sets conference dates
Dates have been set for the annual Rural Restoration ADOPT Mission conference. The conference will be Feb. 14 through 16 at Sikeston.
The event will mark the 13th year for the conference and the ninth year at Sikeston.
Area farmers are invited to attend the conference, said Mary Myers, director of ADOPT Ministry and a coordinator of the annual event. All seminars at the conference, the general assembly meetings and workshops are free.
Myers and her husband, state Rep. Peter Myers, started the annual event. The first one was in Memphis, Tenn. President Bill Clinton, then governor of Arkansas, and Tim LaHaye, whose wife, Beverly, founded the Concerned Women For America group, were keynote speakers at the first conference.
Peter Myers, a former U.S. deputy secretary of agriculture, serves as state representative for the 160th District. Mary Myers is president of the Rural Restoration Adopt Mission, headquartered at Sikeston.
Trowel Masonic Lodge sets 50-year pin service
Trowel Lodge 440 AF&AM will hold a special 50-year pin presentation at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Masonic Temple at Marble Hill.
Refreshments will be served at 6:30, followed by the meeting at 7:30.
Bake sale to benefit Alzheimer's group
Jackson Manor, 710 Broadridge, will hold a yard and bake sale, starting at 7 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
Sale proceeds will go to the Alzheimer's Association.
Motorcycle show planned at Dexter
As many as 1,000 motorcycles are expected to converge on Dexter Friday through Sunday, for the second annual Bike Show, sponsored by Tom's Medical.
The three-day show will feature live music, field events, races and games. Proceeds will be designated for the "Diabetes Kids to Camp" fund. A parade of motorcycles will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, from Auto Zone to Bud Shell Ford, where a sound system will provide country music. Information is available by calling (573) 624-2877.
Bollinger County Museum open weekends
The Bollinger Country Museum of Natural History, in the former Will Mayfield College facility at Marble Hill, will be open from noon to 5 weekly on Fridays and Saturdays.
The museum, which opened recently, includes Indian arrowheads, tools and pottery, Civil War artifacts, artwork from local artists, dinosaur fossils and a gift shop.
