AARP meets today at the River Campus

The Cape Girardeau County Chapter of AARP 4041 meets at 1:30 p.m. today at the Southeast Missouri State University River Campus. A tour will be given by the River Campus assistant director Bob Cerchio.

Shredder will be at farmers market opening

The Jackson Farmer's Market on Barton Street from Main to Washington streets, will debut from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 3. A shredder that can destroy several documents at a time will be there on opening day. Eight vendors will offer everything from pottery, honey and dumplings to fresh and dried flowers, eggs and limited produce.

Baking day set at Saxon Lutheran Memorial

Baking in the outdoor oven will start around 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Saxon Lutheran Memorial in Frohna, Mo. The public is invited to exchange recipes, visit with neighbors and bring food to bake. Red Cross to hold 91st annual meeting

American Red Cross supporters and volunteers are invited to the Southeast Missouri Chapter's 91st annual meeting from 11:30 to 1 p.m. June 17 at La Croix United Methodist Church. Attendees may arrive as early as 11 a.m. Members include anyone who is involved with the Red Cross through blood donations, monetary donations, volunteer services or disaster services. Recognition for outstanding service will be given at the meeting. The election of the 2008-2009 board of directors will also take place. Free program offered on how hospice can help

Jackson Nancy Gillard, volunteer coordinator of Crown Hospice, will present a program on hospice at 8:30 p.m. June 19 and 8:30 a.m. June 24 at Riverside Regional Library, 204 S. Union Ave. Hospice programs treat patients with limited life expectancy and is reimbursed 100 percent by Medicare and Medicaid. The focus of hospice care is not to cure the patient but to improve the quality of life for terminally ill patients.

Open house dates set for Oliver House

The Jackson Heritage Association will hold open houses from 1 to 3 p.m. July 6 and from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 3 at the Oliver House Museum, 224 E. Adams St. in Jackson.
