River Heritage Quilters' Guild meets today
The River Heritage Quilters' Guild will meet at 6:30 p.m. for a social hour followed by a 7 p.m. meeting today at the Cape Girardeau Senior Center, 921 N. Clark Ave. This month's program will be "Crazy Quilts" by Zella Rowe. Plans are underway for the biannual Quilt Show held Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 at the Arena Building in Cape Girardeau. * 7 p.m. June 20, a dark comedy, "Aaltra," will be shown in the Hirsch Community Room. Admission is free, and the film runs about 90 minutes. It is suggested for ages 17 and up. The film is in French with English subtitles. For more information, contact adult services at 334-5279.
* 2 p.m. June 20 and 21 and 10 a.m. June 23, free programs by Chautaqua historic re-enactors, Hirsch Community Room. Portrayal of John James Audobon on Tuesday; portrayal of food service pioneer Fred Harvey on Wednesday; portrayal of artist George Washington Carver on Friday. Friday's program may be relocated. A two-day benefit for Jesse Glenn will be held at the Eagles Aerie 3775, 321 N. Spring St., Cape Girardeau on Friday and Saturday. A 5:30 p.m. Friday a chicken and dumplings dinner will be followed by a darts tournament with signups at 6:30 p.m. (play at 7:30 p.m.). At 3 p.m. Saturday, chili and hot dogs will be available, followed by signups for a Texas Hold'em Tournament at 4 p.m. (play at 5 p.m.) and a 7 to 8 p.m. cake walk. The silent auction closes at 9 p.m.
