SEMO Iris Show taking place over weekend

Public viewing of the SEMO iris show is from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the mall.

Fishing derby planned for Saturday morning

The Scott City Parks Department will hold a fishing derby Saturday in honor of Donnie Roth Day at Scott City Community Park. Registration, open to girls and boys 15 and under, is from 8 to 9 a.m. The Scott City Kiwanis Club and Park Board will be co-hosts. For more information, call 264-3411.

Church book sale to feature CDs, DVDs

Quality used books, CDs, DVDs and VCR tapes will be for sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Emanuel United Church of Christ, 403 E. Adams, Jackson. All genres including vintage hard-bound. No phone calls please.

Church and cemetery association meeting

Benefit dinner set for Esther Petzoldt

A benefit dinner for Esther Petzoldt of Jackson, who recently suffered from a stroke, will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Wells. Menu is pulled pork, potatoes, green beans, cole slaw and desserts. The proceeds will help pay for medical bills not covered by insurance. The event is co-sponsored by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans chapter 30324. For those unable to attend, donations may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church for Esther Petzoldt benefit, 320 CR 516, Altenburg, Mo. 63732.

Lewis and Clark programs scheduled

* From 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, historic interpreter Grady Manus will portray George Drouillard, hunter and interpreter for the Corps of Discovery at the nature center.

* From 2 to 3 p.m. May 21, a presentation on Capt. William Clark's slave, York, will be made by Willie Lyles, retired conservation agent and outdoor skills specialist.

Poker run benefits veterans home

McCLURE, Ill. -- The sixth annual Vets and Friends Poker run kicks off with a 9 a.m. first hand at L&D Patio at McClure and ends at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the Missouri Veterans Home, 2400 Veterans Memorial Drive in Cape Girardeau. Blessing of the bikes is at 12:30 p.m.; auction at 1 p.m.; bike show at 2 p.m. Capaha Antique Car Club and Egypt Mills Tractor Club will also hold shows. Cape County Women's Connection will meet

A program on preserving old dolls and a presentation on collections by guest speaker Ann Stauffer will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Branding Iron BBQ, 1903 E. Jackson Blvd., Jackson.
