Breakfast, elections taking place at center

The Community Counseling Center's annual breakfast and elections meeting is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. April 16 at the Career and Technology Center in Cape Girardeau. Call Martha at 651-3747 to register and arrange for breakfast buffet payment.

Registration scheduled for Jackson swim team

The Jackson Swim Team will hold registration for the 2004 summer season from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. April 17 and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 1 at the Riverside Regional Library in Jackson. A mandatory parents meeting will be held from 12 to 1 p.m. May 1 at the library. Enrolled swimmers will be able to attend a safety swim program while parents are meeting.

Jackson Noon Optimists conduct safety clinic

The 13th annual safety clinic, sponsored by the Jackson Noon Optimists, will be held for children kindergarten through third grade at Safety City in Jackson City Park for three sessions on two Saturdays. Held at 9 a.m., noon and 3 p.m. May 1 and 15, children will learn bike, pedestrian and fire safety and stranger danger. Children are fitted for a free bike helmet and receive a free tee shirt. The Jackson Police and Fire Departments will be assisting the club and bicycles will be provided at the clinic. Registration will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 17 at Philipps Carpet and Decorating Center and again on April 24 if space remains at the sessions. Public invited to view Art Expressions exhibit

The Jackson Art Department will be hosting its annual all district art exhibit titled Art Expressions 2004 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 17 and from 1 to 3 p.m. April 18 at the Jackson High School Multi-purpose Building. The public is invited to view thousands of kindergarten through grade 12 artwork. April 17 will feature a variety of demonstrating guest artists, hands-on sculpture and weaving centers and Arts for All painting centers.

Cape Girardeau Jaycees ready for next meeting

Members of the Cape Girardeau Jaycees (Junior Chamber of Commerce) invite individuals between 21 and 39 years of age to attend their next meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Buckners Brewing Company in Cape Girardeau. Visitors may also visit their Web site: www.capejaycees.org for a detailed schedule of events and more information. The goal of the organization is to provide leadership training through community service. The Jaycees will take part in the March of Dimes Walk from 9 to 11 a.m. April 24 and participate in Friends of the Park later in the month will be announced.

Independently Speaking Program to air Sunday

The next Southeast Missouri Alliance for Disability Independence TV program will air at 5:30 a.m. Sunday on WDKA-TV-49 and at 7:30 p.m. On April 13 and 27 on Cable Access Channel 5. Scott Doty, clinical director for The Gibson Recovery Center in Cape Girardeau, is the featured guest. He will inform viewers of the kinds of services the center offers.

Students pro-life T-shirt day plans announced

Voice for Life and American Life League will promote the second National Students Pro-Life T-Shirt Day April 27. Pro-life students in all schools are asked to participate by wearing a pro-life T-shirt to school on this day. For ordering information call Mark Loos at 335-6227.-- From staff reports
