Brain Injury Association of Missouri Presents Point of Light Award

Scott Gee executive director of the Brain Injury Association of Missouri, left, recently presented Billie Sue Graves head injury service coordinator for the Southeast Missouri region, right, with the Point of Light Award at a recent meeting of the Cape Girardeau Area Brain Injury Resource Group. The presentation recognized Graves' outstanding service to brain injury survivors and their families in our area.

The local group meets the first Monday monthly at the Generations Center of Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. Steve Pledger, Cape Girardeau County Archives archival technician, will present "The Battle of Cape Girardeau -- April 26, 1863" at the 2 p.m. Sunday meeting of the Cape Girardeau County Chapter of the Civil War Round Table. The group meets in the fellowship room of Hanover Lutheran Church, 2949 Perryville Road, Cape Girardeau. Individuals interested in historical events surrounding the Civil War are invited to attend. Registration underway for Camp Capaha

Registration is now taking place for Camp Capaha, a summer day camp for youths ages 6 to 12, held at the Student Recreation Center South Campus this summer at Southeast Missouri State University. The program, expanded to include five weeks, is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Session one is from June 14 to 18; session two from June 21 to 25; session three from June 28 to July 2; session four from July 5 to 9; session five from July 12 to 16. An open house is set for 1 to 3 p.m. June 5 at the Student Recreation Center South. Call 986-7379 for more information.

Radio show to discuss Notre Dame's musical

Going Public, with hosts KRCU's Tom Harte and Chris Schnell, will air at 3 p.m. Sunday on KRCU 90.9 FM. Guests will be Ellen Seyer, director of music at Notre Dame Regional High School, and Notre Dame students Casey Cuba and Blake Fisher. The panel will discuss "Crazy for You," the upcoming musical performed by students at Notre Dame.

Annual Kid's Carnival for Cystic Fibrosis planned

Centered on health and safety, the Third Annual Kid's Carnival for Cystic Fibrosis will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the A.C. Brase Arena Building, Cape Girardeau. Youngsters may tour the Cape Girardeau Fire Department's fire truck, Cape County Private Ambulance and the ARCH Air Medical Helicopter. Free vision screenings for children by Eye Care Specialists and five-minute massages for parents by Universal Health and Fitness Center massage therapist are planned. The Academy of Dance Arts will perform. Games, face painting and food will be available.

Gardeners make plans for spring plant sale

The Cape County Master Gardeners will hold their fourth annual spring plant sale from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday at Missouri Conservation Shelter at Arena Park.

Date set for society's treasure sale event

The Women's Missionary Society at First General Baptist Church of Cape Girardeau will be holding a treasure sale on May 15 in the new Family Life Center. For a rental fee vendors may sell collectibles, antiques, crafts or garage sale items at eight-foot tables. Space is limited.
