Cape Girardeau County Chapter of AARP meets
The Cape Girardeau County Chapter of AARP will meet at 1:30 p.m. today at Grace United Methodist Church, Broadway and Caruthers Avenue. The program, "Dulcimer Music and More," will be presented by Jack Smoot from the Missouri Department of Conservation. There will be a drawing for a door prize.
City, university tests tornado warning sirens
At noon Wednesday the city of Cape Girardeau and Southeast Missouri State University will perform a test of their tornado warning system. This test will last approximately three minutes and will be repeated the first Wednesday of each month at noon unless there is threatening weather is in the area. Cape Girardeau has an Adopt-A-Siren program. To adopt (sponsor) a siren, contact assistant fire chief/emergency operations coordinator Mark Hasheider at 334-3211.
Zonta Club holds flea market at Centenary
The Zonta Club's annual flea market will be Saturday at Centenary United Methodist Church in the Family Life Center, 300 N. Ellis St., Cape Girardeau. Proceeds will benefit local organizations.
CCCF holds semiannual antique, collectibles show
The Community Counseling Center Foundation is sponsoring its spring 2007 semiannual antique and collectibles show beginning with a preshow sale from 8 to 9 a.m. Sunday. Regular show hours are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (for a reduced admission fee). A variety of antiques and vintage collectibles will be available from dealers in four states. To sign up for space, dealers should contact Larry Essner 334-1100, ext. 219, or Elmer Schetter at 335-8733. All proceeds will be used for improving facilities, equipment and service for the mentally ill.
St. Mary's Girl Scouts fill up Sister Lucille's car
In honor of Girl Scout Week, St. Mary's Girl Scouts (Troops 256, 67, 182, 95, 123, 58, 41, and the newest Daisy troop without a number), along with help of the entire school, will fill up Sister Lucille's car March 13 with food pantry items. Last year Scouts donated 1,600 items to the Ferth Food Pantry located at the Ferth House behind Old St. Vincent's. The car will be in the school parking lot.
NARFE to meet at Perryville Ponderosa
The National Association of Retired and Current Federal Employees (NARFE), Chapter 1237, will meet at noon March 13 at Ponderosa Steakhouse in Perryville, Mo. All current and retired federal employees in Perry, Ste. Genevieve and Cape Girardeau counties are encouraged to attend. A representative from Perry County Health will present the program. 'Crazy bowl' to benefit breast cancer
A "Crazy Bowl" will be held at 7 p.m. March 14 at Main Street Lanes in Jackson. All proceeds will benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Call Christi Slinkard at 576-8323 to reserve a spot.
