Public invited to forum for school board candidates

The Scott City P.T.O. has scheduled a forum at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the Middle School Gym for candidates vying for the two available school board positions. The public is invited to attend.

Program will highlight firefighting equipment

A program featuring the thermal imagery camera being used by the Cape Girardeau Fire Department will be presented by firefighter Shawn Morris at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Masonic Lodge. St. Mark's Masonic Lodge No. 93 will sponsor the program. The Tuesday night meeting will follow the presentation.

The Cape County Relay For Life kickoff will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Cape Girardeau Elks Lodge, west of Cape County Park North. The agenda includes team sign-ups, the presentation of new tools to help surpass team goals, a chance to answer questions about cancer advocacy and the opportunity to win a new car or personal watercraft. The Cape County Relay is scheduled for 6 p.m. June 4 at Cape County Park North. Those wanting to register via the Internet can visit the Web site, www.capecountyrelay.org.

Cape County Master Gardeners plan seminar

Cape County Master Gardeners will conduct its annual spring seminar from 8:30 to 4 p.m. March 13 at the University Extension Center, 684 West Jackson Trail, Jackson. Registration begins at 8 a.m. No admission charge. Advance registration may be made by completing an application (available at the Jackson office and businesses throughout the area) and mailing it to Nadine Davis, 3323 County Road 645, Cape Girardeau, Mo. 63701 by March 8. A wide variety of gardening subjects including landscaping, seed starting, cooking with herbs, herb gardening, ornamental pruning, wreath making and garden decorating, bonsai, basket weaving, water gardening and native plants will be presented.

Republican Women's Club welcomes guest speaker

Cape County Public Administrator, Phyllis Schwab, will be the guest speaker at the Cape County Republican Women's Club meeting at 11:45 a.m. Friday at the Grecian Steak House in Cape Girardeau. Schwab recently announced she is seeking a second term in the upcoming 2004 election. The club meets the first Friday of each month. For membership information contact Janet Ludwig at 243-8366.
