Scott County Women in Ag learn about ferns

The Scott County Women in Agriculture will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the USDA Office on Highway 77 in Benton, Mo. Elis Holstein will speak to the group about ferns. All women are invited to attend. The organization is for women who share an interest in gardening, cooking, farming, family activities or helping the community. For more information, contact Kay Dover at (573) 545-9027.

Notre Dame holds annual baseball raffle

Tickets for the Notre Dame Regional High School Education Fund Foundation's annual baseball raffle of 2007 Cardinal home tickets are now available by calling 335-3416. All ticket stubs with money must be returned to the Foundation by March 27 for a chance to win opening day tickets and other prizes. The drawing will be held at noon March 27 at the school.

Free disability, pension filing help for veterans

Free help to veterans filing for disability or VA pensions is available from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at the VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau. Veterans who are housebound or in a nursing home could be eligible for benefits. Call Melissa at (573) 778-4614 for more information.

Benefit dance and silent auction slated Saturday

A benefit for Shannon McIntyre will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Davis Banquet Center, Highway 25, Jackson. McIntyre is a 25-year-old single mother of three children aged 1, 2 and 4, who was diagnosed with stage-five cancer. Without life insurance or savings for her children, the event hopes to raise enough money to pay for funeral expenses and set aside a savings bond for each of her children. Silent auction items include teeth whitening kits, savings bonds, jewelry, gift baskets and gift certificates to restaurants, portrait studios and for car maintenance.
