Anniversaries celebrated with Girl Scout activities

The Girl Scouts of Otahki Council will celebrate the 90th anniversary of the council and the 95th anniversary of Girl Scouts of the USA from 2 to 4 p.m. March 11 at the Osage Community Centre. Demonstrations of firebuilding and crafts, a photo "Wall of Decades" from the Otahki Council's history, sing-alongs, scrapbooking and refreshments will be available to all Girl Scouts, their families and the public.

Down syndrome event to be held at bookstore

Down syndrome awareness day will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Barnes & Noble Booksellers in Cape Girardeau. Guest speaker Dr. Julia A. Pewitt-Kinder will focus her presentation for professionals, such as teachers, clergy and therapists, who deal with special-needs children and their families. At 2 p.m. Biscuit the Dog will be part of youngster story time. At 2:30 p.m., kindergarteners to second-graders may attend a story time themed "Acceptance and Inclusion." Reading and discussion of a December National Geographic Kids article about Down syndrome is on the agenda. For more information, call Jill LeGrand at 335-0522, extension 218.
