Railway society getting special ride on train

The American Railway Caboose Historical Educational Society is meeting in St. Louis and will travel to Jackson in a restored Trailways bus to ride on the St. Louis and Iron Mountain Railroad. Engine tours will be given on this run, set to depart at 1 p.m. Saturday from the depot. For more information or reservations, call 243-1688.

Jackson planning Veterans Day parade

This year's expanded Jackson Veterans Day parade starts at 5 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Frozen Food Locker in uptown Jackson. Regular participants include Jackson, Oak Ridge and Delta high school bands; various branches of the military; Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts; local fire departments; 4-H Clubs; and Jackson police and the Cape County Sheriff's Department. The parade's grand marshal is Jim Nelson, member of American Legion Post 158 and Jackson VFW Post 10495. New to the parade are the Antique Car Club and River City Rodders. A program will follow the parade at New McKendree United Methodist Church featuring Staff Sgt. Matt Hampton, a 12-year veteran of the U.S. Army from Jackson who recently returned from Iraq.

Navy group working to reunite veterans

Veterans from all branches of service, past and present, can be reunited through the Missouri Amphibious Navy Group that meets at 11:30 a.m. monthly on the third Tuesday at Ryan's Steak House, 130 Vantage Drive, Cape Girardeau. The next meeting is Nov. 16. All area veterans, wives or guests are welcome. For more information, contact president Ernie Williams at (816) 455-7074.

Donations being taking for toddler's trained dog

Following the article, "Mother seeking trained dog to help protect autistic toddler," published Monday in the Southeast Missourian, a mailing address has been established for donations. Ste. Genevieve guild holding Christmas show

The Ste. Genevieve Art Guild's 2004 Christmas Show and Sale, held in conjunction with the town's annual Christmas Walk, will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 4 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 5 at the County Services Building, 255 Market St., Ste. Genevieve. The opening reception is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Dec. 3. Raffle tickets for the showpiece, an original watercolor of the Jean Baptiste Valle Garden by Juanita Rapp Wyman, can be purchased from any art guild member prior to or during the show. A silent auction of artwork donated by guild members will be held throughout the weekend. Receipts from the auction are designated for the Art Guild Scholarship Fund.
