Meeting date slated for neighborhood group
The Neighborhood Connection group will meet at 6 p.m. today at 101 N. Fountain St. Guest speakers include Charles Horn and Melinda Salvator with the East Missouri Action Agency. The presentation is on affordable housing.
The Community Caring Council's regular monthly meeting will be at 7:30 a.m. Friday at SADI, 121 S. Broadview St. Speaking will be Donna Taake and/or Denise Stewart, co-chairs for the Youth Development Committee. They will discuss the progress of the committee and about the importance of the 40 Developmental Asset initiative coming to the community.
A program to investigate the behavior and adaptations of owls will take place from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday at the Cape Girardeau Campus Nature Center. The program for 12- to 17-year-olds will include searching for nesting sites, trying to call them in, seeing what they eat, and a nighttime treat. Register by calling 290-5218.
A rummage sale is set for 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, 2411 Abbey Road. The sale is sponsored by Alpha Phi Omega, Southeast's only co-ed service fraternity.
The Boy Scouts will be picking up filled Scouting for Food bags at 9 a.m. Saturday to provide food for local food banks. Food pantries are especially low at this time. Individuals whose bags may have been missed can call 335-3346. Canned food can be dropped off the following week at any Regions Bank.
The next meeting of the Cape Civil War Roundtable will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Hanover Lutheran Church, 2949 Perryville Road. Speaker is local author Morley Swingle. His presentation will be on Mark Twain's service in the Civil War. Swingle will have copies of his book available for purchase at the meeting.
The Cape Girardeau County Genealogical Society will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Cape Girardeau Public Library, at 711 N. Clark Ave. Marilyn Hutchings will present the program and share resources available for research in the library. The society meets monthly on the fourth Tuesday. Nonmembers are welcome.
