Genealogical society holding informal meeting

The Cape Girardeau County Genealogical Society will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Riverside Regional Library in Jackson. This informal meeting will be a time of research with no business meeting or formal program presented. Visitors are invited to bring their questions and work with more experienced genealogists at the meeting.

The Cape Girardeau County Genealogical Society is an organization of more than 200 people that meets monthly on the fourth Tuesday. Nonmembers are welcome at all meetings.

Advance church to have children's store

The children's store, open at 10 a.m. Nov. 15, allows a child to buy a gift for mom or dad for a dollar (they'll wrap it for free) at Advance United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. The annual turkey dinner will be from 4 to 7 p.m. A quilt bazaar is included in the festivities.

All proceeds will benefit a new building fund.

Benefit to help girl hurt by lawn mower

A benefit supper for Brooke Schuessler, a 7-year-old girl who was injured in a lawn mower accident, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Nov. 8 at Immanuel Lutheran School, 225 W. South St., Perryville, Mo. The menu includes fish, fried potatoes, slaw, baked beans and dessert. Donations will be accepted.

The event is sponsored by Zion Lutheran Church Crosstown Young Adults and Immanuel Lutheran School PTL, along with Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

Contributions may be made payable to Brooke Schuessler Expense Fund and mailed to Dennis and Kathy Schuessler, 1490 PCR 702, Perryville, Mo. 63775 or Wayne and Marilyn Schuessler, 2894 Sedan Drive, St. Louis, Mo. 63125.

Dance to benefit Immaculate Conception

Immaculate Conception's fund-raising dance will start at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 14 at Bavarian Halle in Jackson. The dinner of German and American cuisine will begin at 6 p.m.; the dance begins at 7 p.m.

Entertainment will feature Trio Freddi EuroAmerican Music and Vocals Band from St. Louis. Food is available for purchase.

Group sponsoring Halloween dance

Beginning Experience is sponsoring a potluck, bring-a-pound Halloween reunion dance at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Vincent's elementary gym, 1919 Ritter. Beginning Experience encourages those attending to bring a pound of goodies to eat. The dance is from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. For more information, call 332-7537.

Beginning Experience is an organization whose purpose is to help widowed, separated and divorced people adjust to their single lives.

Optimist Club treating students to free skating

In observance of annual youth appreciation week, the Jackson Evening Optimist Club is extending an invitation to all Jackson schoolchildren from first to sixth grade to free admission at Jackson Skate Center from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. next week.

Free skate rental is available but limited. Dates have been assigned by grade: first and second grades, Nov. 3; third and fourth grades, Nov. 4; fifth grade, Nov. 5; sixth grade, Nov. 6.

Craft, gift show to be held at Bavarian Halle

A crafts, gifts and collectibles show will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Nov. 21 and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 22 and 23 at the Bavarian Halle, at Interstate 55 exit 105 in Jackson.

Applications for booth and demonstration spaces are now being accepted.

Proceeds from the show benefit youth-related activities. Last year, more than $1,000 was donated to the Jackson Fire Department for its annual children's toy drive.

Registration forms are available by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to Craft and Gift Show, 2938 State Highway E, Oak Ridge, Mo. 63739.

Parents group has two events this week

Parents Without Partners will attend line dance lessons from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Circle S Saddle in Gordonville. There is an admission cost.

The group will attend "Coping by Beginning Experience" from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Divine Homes Realty, Cape Girardeau. There is no cost.

Cape library closing for Veterans Day

The Cape Girardeau Public Library will be closed Nov. 11 in observance of Veterans Day.

Riverside library holding story time

Preschool story time will be at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 3 at Riverside Regional Library in Jackson. The theme of the stories will be harvest.
