Cape Girardeau library sets November calendar

The Cape Girardeau Public Library has planned the following events for the month of November:

  • Nov. 2 the Great Books series will feature, "One Hundred Years of Solitude" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez; Nov. 16 will feature, "Soul by Soul: Life Inside the Antebellum Slave Market," by Walter Johnson; Nov. 30 will feature, "Shadow Divers: The True Story of Two Americans Who Risked Everything to Solve One of the Last Mysteries of WWI," by Robert Kurson. All Great Books meetings will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Hirsch Room.
  • At 2 p.m. Nov. 7, "The Civil War in Cape Girardeau" will be shown in the Hirsch Room with a question and answer period to follow. Panel includes Morley Swingle, Dr. Frank Nickell and Professor Louis Gerteis.
  • At 7 p.m. on Nov. 10, Paul White Eagle will present the geneaology program "Finding Your Native American Roots."
  • The library will be closed Nov. 11 in observance of Veteran's Day.
  • "Craft Series I @ the Library," Nov. 14 at 2 p.m. in the Hirsch Room. This is the first in a series of three craft sessions to make items for home or gifts. Registration and a small fee are required.
  • Book Discussion Group in the Hirsch Room at 7 p.m. on Nov. 18 over "Good in Bed," by Jennifer Weiner.
  • "Craft Series II @the Library," Nov. 21 at 2 p.m. in the Hirsch Room. This is the second in a series of three craft sessions to make items for home or gifts. Registration and a small fee are required.
  • The library will be closed Nov. 25 for Thanksgiving.
  • Poetry Coffee House at 7 p.m. on Nov. 29 will feature "Eastern Poets and Haiku." Both readers and listeners are welcome.

Jackson Riverside library plans story times

The Riverside Regional Library branch in Jackson has planned the following story times for children ages 1 to 8 in November:

  • "Bubble Bath Fun!" from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. and 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. on Nov. 9.
  • "Let's Book," from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. and 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. on Nov. 16. Children are invited to dress up as their favorite book character to celebrate Children's Book Week Nov. 15 through 20 and sign up to receive a free book.
  • "Thanksgiving" from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. and 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. on Nov. 23.
  • "A Winter Tale" from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. and 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. on Nov. 30.

Regional libraries presenting Thanksgiving program.

Riverside Regional Library in Perryville, Scott City and Oran will have story time titled "Thanksgiving & Let's Book @the Children's Book Week." The program will be presented at Scott City on Nov. 9 at 1:30 p.m.; at Perryville on Nov. 10 at 10 a.m.; and at Oran on Nov. 18 at 1:15 and 2 p.m.

Altenburg library plans harvest stories

Riverside Regional Library at Altenburg will have story time Nov. 10 from 1 to 1:45 p.m. and 1:45 to 2:30 p.m. titled "Thanksgiving Harvest & Let's Book @the Children's Book Week."

Benton library presents "Turkey Fingers"

Riverside Regional Library at Benton has two story times planned for children in November. On Nov. 2 from 3 to 4 p.m., Ms. Bernice will talk about "Turkey Fingers." On Nov. 17 from 3 to 4 p.m., story time will feature "Thanksgiving & Let's Book @the Children's Book Week."
