State representative to visit Cub Scouts
State Rep. Jason Crowell, who serves as House Majority Leader, will address Cub Scout Pack 20 at 7 p.m. today at Alma Schrader Elementary School, 1360 Randol.
Crowell will talk about how the ideals of scouting are important in his career as a representative for Cape Girardeau.
Parents Without Partners plans special activities

Civil War Round Table to gather on Sunday
The Cape Girardeau County Chapter of the Civil War Round Table will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Fellowship Room of Hanover Lutheran Church, 2949 Perryville Road.
The speaker, Margaret Mates, will discuss "Everyday Life in Cape Girardeau during the Civil War."

Spooky storytelling set at Bollinger Mill site
The Bollinger Mill State Historic Site, Highway 34, Burfordville, will hold a spooky storytelling event at 7 p.m. Oct. 24 with Dianne Moran, a professional storyteller.

Cape Girardeau Public Library programs set
*At 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18 the Cape Girardeau Public Library will host "Sacagawea, Bird Woman." The presentation will be made by award-winning storyteller Dianne Moran, whose fascination with the past will bring what it must have been like to journey across the frontier to life.
*At 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20 a poetry coffee house will be held in the Hirsch Community Room. Think spooky. Edgar Allen Poe and other scary poetry is the focus.
*At 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21 all ages are welcome to create a creaky, delicious haunted house fit for any ghost. The library will supply graham crackers and frosting; bring your imagination and a bag of candy or treats to share.
Reception to mark paying off of building mortgage
BELL CITY, Mo. -- A reception to celebrate paying off the mortgage will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Bell City Community Building, located on Highway N.

Murder mystery event to raise funds for school
Immaculate Conception Parish Center and the Steiger Haus of Ste. Genevieve will present a murder mystery dinner at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

Mobile pet adoption at Westfield Shoppingtown
A mobile pet adoption will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 25 at Famous Barr Court, Westfield Shoppingtown West Park.
All proceeds will benefit the animals in the care of the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri. Volunteers will answer pet related questions and several cats and dogs available for adoption will be there. 2003 Bark in the Park tee shirts will be available.

Annual Zonta Fashion Show includes meal
Featuring the latest in fashions and accessories from Hecht's, Etcetera, Carlisle, Annie-Em's and several other area retailers, the 25th Annual Zonta Fashion Show will begin with a champagne toast at 6 p.m. followed by a meal at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 20 at Southeast Missouri State University Center Ballroom.

Free safety fair to include bike safety, fire training
"Fall Into Fun With Safety" will be held, rain or shine, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Main Street Fitness Center, 410 W. Main, Jackson. Children are invited to participate in various activities and obtain health and safety information from Southeast Missouri Hospital and Main Street Family Fitness Center.
Trained technicians from Safe Kids and Safe Communities will inspect car seat installations from 10 a.m. to noon. Those planning to take part should use the Washington Street entrance for these inspections. Important information about child passenger safety and the importance of bicycle helmets will be presented by Safe Kids and Safe Communities, Jackson Parents as Teachers and the Jackson Noon Optimists.
The Jackson Police Department will emphasize bicycle and pedestrian safety; the Jackson Fire Department will provide information on fire prevention.
The SEMO Chapter of Emergency Nurses Care will teach kids about Halloween safety and the Cape County Private Ambulance Service will bring an ambulance so children can get an up-close look in a non-emergency situation.
Special appearances by Crash Test Dummies Vince and Larry, Buckle Bear and the Missourian Jr.'s own Tracker will be made. For more information call 651-5815.
Burger/Park family reunion in the works
The Burger/Park family reunion will be held at noon Oct. 25 at Cape County Park Shelter 22. The reunion is open to relatives related to the union of Lester C. Burger and Stella M. Parks.
Most lived in the Cape Girardeau, Scott and Bollinger county areas.
A potluck meal begins at 12:30 p.m. Bring a covered dish. Everyone is encouraged to bring old family photos and memorabilia to share. There will be a copier there.
