Civil War Roundtable to go on fall trip Saturday
The Civil War Roundtable will take a fall trip to the General Lloyd Tilghman Museum in Paducah, Ky., for their next club meeting. The group will meet at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Hanover Lutheran Church parking lot, 2949 Perryville Road, and arrive in Paducah around 11 a.m. The group will have lunch and go to the museum for a personal tour at 12:30 p.m. The group will arrive back in Cape Girardeau around 4 p.m.
AIDS Walk to be held again in Southern Illinois
After a one-year absence, the Southern Illinois AIDS Walk will begin with a health fair and registration at noon Saturday followed by a 2 p.m. walk at the Newman Center at 715 S. Washington St., next to the SIU campus. The fair includes free confidential HIV testing from the Jackson County Health Department. All proceeds benefit the Southern Illinois AIDS Christmas Project for grocery store gift cards for low-income families affected by HIV and AIDS in Southern Illinois. Both individuals and organizations are encouraged to participate. Awards will be given. Those unable to attend may send a check payable to the Christmas Project or the AIDS Walk to the Newman Center, 715 S. Washington St., Carbondale, Ill., 62901. Dog costume party to be held at training center
K-9 Training Center Happy Tails is sponsoring a "Hound-O-Ween" dog costume party at 6 p.m. Saturday at 429 N. Broadview St. in Cape Girardeau. Prizes will be awarded for best costume, best trick, and best dog and owner duo. For more information, call 651-1800.
Teen hike scheduled by Cape Nature Center
A teen hiking trip led by the Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center for ages 12 to 17 will be at both Amidon Memorial and Millstream Gardens Conservation Areas from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Participants will explore the granite shut-ins of Amidon, the igneous shut-ins of Millstream Gardens and the natural communities of both areas. Transportation will be provided. Permission forms must be signed by a parent or guardian before departure. To register, call 290-5218.
