Chief Paul White Eagle will give a free presentation at 8 p.m. Thursday at the University Center Ballroom on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University. The program is on "The Origin of Life: Looking from the inside and seeing its many spectrums as known and taught by Native Peoples." Class of 1943 plans reunion beginning Friday

The Central High School class of 1943 will hold its reunion from Friday through Sunday. A social hour will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Marge Thompson's house, Longview Place. Beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, the group meets at the Convention and Visitors Bureau, corner of Broadway and Main Street in Cape Girardeau for a tour of the new Mississippi River Tales mural, the Red House Interpretive Center and lunch at Port Cape Restaurant. At 6:30 p.m., dinner and festivities will be held at Drury Lodge. At 9:30 a.m. Sunday, the group will meet at Denny's at 161 West Drive (the old Shoney's off William Street).

League of Women Voters to feature guest speaker

Members of the League of Women Voters of Southeast Missouri will have local real estate agent Thomas Meyer as guest speaker at the league's meeting at 7 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Cape Girardeau Public Library. Meyer served on the original committee for Cape City Charter government in 1981. Currently he serves as chairman of the committee for charter revision. The public is welcome to attend.

Facilities corporation seeks members

The Southeast Missouri Facilities Corp., a not-for-profit organization, is soliciting members at a meeting at 6:45 p.m. Oct. 25 at The Marquette, 338 Broadway. The corporation's primary purpose is the ownership of several buildings leased to East Missouri Action Agency Inc. and associated programs. A seven-member board will be chosen to manage the affairs of the corporation at this meeting.

The Muscular Dystrophy Association will provide free flu shots to individuals with any of the more than 40 neuromuscular diseases in the association's program. Cooking Club contest deadline is Oct. 30

Recipes to enter the free "Old Family Recipe Contest," open to all amateur cooks regardless of age, must be postmarked by Oct. 30 or submitted online at www.famouscontest.com. To enter, send one recipe, handwritten or typed, along with two loose stamps to Famous Cooks Cooking Club, 6908 W. 135th St. No. 160, Overland Park, Kan. 66223. All entries must include the recipe name as well as the cook's name and adress on the back.
