Local author signs book at Barnes and Noble

Stan Crader will sign copies of his recently published book, "The Bridge," from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Barnes and Noble. Other signings will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Bollinger County Library and from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Sikeston Depot.

Civil War Roundtable to meet Sunday

The Cape Civil War Roundtable will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hanover Lutheran Church, 2949 Perryville Road in Cape Girardeau. Speaker is Southern Illinois University professor Tony Fleege. He will give the presentation "Survival and Mortality in the Civil War: Dawning of the modern U.S. Healthcare and Funeral Business." Dues will be collected this month.

County genealogical society to meet Tuesday

The Cape Girardeau County Genealogical Society will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Cape Girardeau County Archive Center, 112 E. Washington St. in Jackson. The program "Genealogical Resources Available from the DAR" will be presented by Morgan Lake. The archive center will be open at 6:30 p.m. for members to use the library for research.

MRHA conference set for Jan. 25

The upcoming Mississippi River Hills Association Regional Conference, free and open to all, will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon Jan. 25 at the Perryville Higher Education Center, 108 S. Progress Drive in Perryville, Mo. The agenda includes a business meeting, project updates, and three break-out sessions: "Planning and Zoning: Why or Why Not?" by Ron Higginbotham, University of Missouri Extension; "Herbs and Their Uses In Agriculture" by Dr. Hwei-Ying Johnson, Lincoln University; and "Marketing Your Agri-Business" by Lane McConnell of the Missouri Department of Agriculture. Miss and Mr. Southeast Missouri Pageant set

Registration for the Miss and Mr. Southeast Missouri Pageant will be at 1 p.m. Jan. 27 at Heartland Banquet Center in Jackson. The pageant is at 2 p.m. Girls, boys and teens of all ages are invited to participate. To receive an entry form or additional information, call Lisa Boyer 332-1718.

Central's National Honor Society plans dance

Everyone is invited to the senior citizen's dance from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Feb. 22 at Cape Girardeau Central High School, 1000 South Silver Springs Road. Admission is free, and donations will benefit the Veterans Home. A patriotic theme will recognize veterans. The night will include dancing, appetizers, high school tours, an art exhibit and music, including a preview of the school's production of "Grease."
