Illmo centennial to include baby contest
Details are still being worked out about the Illmo centennial celebration that will take place Sept. 25, but already organizers know there will be a baby contest for children 6 to 12 months old. Registration forms for the contest can be picked up at Scott City Medical Center, 2102 Main St. The deadline to sign up for the contest is Sept. 20. At 10 a.m. Sept. 13, photos of the babies who will be in the contest will be taken at the caboose parking lot on Main Street in Scott City. The photos will run in the Scott County Signal before the contest. Anyone in the surrounding Scott City area is welcome to enter their baby in the contest and come out and get photos taken.
Class of 1959 holding 45th reunion this week
Cape Girardeau Central High School class of 1959 will hold a 45th reunion Friday and Saturday. The weekend kicks off at 7 p.m. Friday at Houck Stadium followed by a reception. The class will tour the new high school at 9:30 a.m. Saturday and have a brunch at 11 a.m. From 6 p.m. to midnight, the meal, band and dancing will be held at Heartland Banquet Hall in Jackson. Superior Electric plans reunion at park

Scottish Rite spreading word on free clinic
The Capaha Scottish Rite of Cape Girardeau will distribute free papers containing information about a speech and learning clinic in St. Louis from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Cape Girardeau Wal-Mart and Sept. 18 at the Jackson Wal-Mart, Country Mart and Kmart in Cape Girardeau. All donations received will remain in the area. Children from the area receive free assistance annually through this clinic.
Rodders plan 27th car show at Capaha Park
The River City Rodders of Cape Girardeau will hold their 27th annual car show at Capaha Park on Sept. 19. Registration will be from 9 a.m. to noon; awards will be presented at 3 p.m. Participants will receive dash plaques and be eligible to win attendance prizes. Trophies for first, second and third place will be awarded in 31 classes. Vintage motorcycles (up to 1979) for street and dirt bikes may be entered. Free workshop on senior caregiving scheduled
Missouri Delta Medical Center, Senior Lifestyles and Southeast Missouri Area Agency on Aging are sponsoring a free workshop for caregivers from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 23 at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston. Antique, collectibles show set for Oct. 10
The Community Counseling Center Foundation is sponsoring its semiannual antiques and collectibles show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Arena Building in Cape Girardeau. The preshow sale takes place from 8 to 9 a.m. Dealers may sign up for space now by contacting Larry Essner, executive director of the Community Counseling Center Foundation, at 334-1100. Proceeds will be used for providing improved facilities, equipment and services for people with mental illness. The center serves Cape Girardeau, Bollinger, Madison, Ste. Genevieve and Perry counties.
