Third annual Root Hog Rally scheduled

The third annual Root Hog Rally will be held Friday and Saturday at Arrowhead Campground on the Castor River in Grassy, Mo. All bikes welcome. There will be live entertainment both nights, refreshments and food, overnight camping and vendors.

All proceeds will benefit the Shepherd's Cove Children's Home in Cape Girardeau.

Tuschhoff family reunion to be held next month

A basket dinner will begin at noon Sept. 7 at Cape County Park South, shelter 21 to celebrate the Tuschhoff family reunion. Bring lawn chairs, eating utensils, old pictures and family tree information. For more information, call Norma Tuschhoff at (573) 266-3530 or Vera Birk at (573) 243-5472.

Bell City Community Days coming up

Bell City Community Days will be Sept. 5 and 6 and will feature food and dunking booths, homemade ice cream, games, a pageant and a queen contest, a parade and mowing machine races.

Author to speak on Cape history at library

Local author Morley Swingle will give a program about the history of Cape Girardeau and autograph copies of his book, "The Gold of Cape Girardeau," at 10 a.m. Saturday at Riverside Regional Library, 204 S. Union St., Jackson. Copies of the book will be available for sale at the program. Everyone is invited to attend this free program. Refreshments will be served.

Community dance will be held Saturday

Cape Friends of Traditional Music and Dance will hold a community dance from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday at Christ Episcopal Church, 101 N. Fountain, Cape Girardeau.

Oktoberfest and Volksmarch in Jackson

The second annual Volksmarch in Jackson is slated for 9 a.m. Sept. 20 at Rocky Holler.

The Oktoberfest, scheduled for Sept. 27 at the Bavarian Halle, offers many opportunities to get involved. Those interested in sponsorship may call the Jackson Chamber of Commerce at 243-8131.

SEMO Fair pageant to be held Sept. 7

The SEMO Fair Pageant will be held at 3 p.m. Sept. 7 in the R&R Tent at the fairgrounds in Cape Girardeau. Six age divisions may participate. Competition includes pageant wear or party dress for Tiny, Little, Young and Pre-Teen Miss Semo Fair divisions; sportswear and evening gown for Teen and Miss SEMO Fair; interview competition for the Miss division.

Contestants receive a participation certificate. Prizes will also be awarded. Entry fee will be paid to the Sedalia State Fair Pageant for the Miss division. For information or an application, call Melody Hutson at 335-9252 or Shari McConnell at 335-0423. Preregistration is required. Exceptions may be made by calling in advance.

Baby Contest and Model Search

A baby contest and model search will be held for boys and girls of all ages at noon Aug. 23 at Westfield Shoppingtown West Park in Cape Girardeau. Call Lisa Boyer at 332-1718 to register.

Mr. and Miss Labor Day Pageant

The Mr. and Miss Labor Day Pageant will be held at 1 p.m. Aug. 30 at the Executive Inn in Paducah, Ky. Two age groups for boys up to 5 years old; girls up to 20 years old may compete in seven age groups. There will be a winner and 3 alternates per age group.
