Bootheel Quilters' Guild holding annual show
The Bootheel Quilters' Guild will hold its annual quilt show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Sikeston Sports Complex Park in the Clinton Community Service Building. A raffle quilt will be given away at 4 p.m. Sunday. Homemade items and quilts will be for sale in the craft booth. Proceeds benefit local and county charities.

Deadline approaches for barbecue sign-up
The 11th annual Cape BBQ Fest will be held from 4 to 11 p.m. Aug. 22 and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 23. Winners announced at 2:30 p.m.
Teams have until Friday to sign up.
In addition to a $250 grand prize and a trophy, there are cash and trophy prizes in six categories including hamburgers, beef kabobs, beef boneless strip steak, pork roast (Boston butt), pork steaks and pork ribs.
The showmanship award, to be held Aug. 22, will be given to the team inviting the most notice or attention by presenting or displaying entertainment to amuse other teams and the public through song, skits, activities, decorations, costumes, enthusiasm and crowd participation. The next day will feature serious barbecuing.

Rep. Crowell to speak to AARP chapter today
The Cape Girardeau County Chapter of AARP will meet at 1:30 p.m. today at Grace United Methodist Church at Broadway and Caruthers in Cape Girardeau.
The program will be "What's Happening in the Legislature," presented by state Rep. Jason Crowell.
Party closes out reading program in Jackson
A party to conclude the summer reading program will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Jackson Public Library, 100 N. Missouri St.
Preschool story time begins at 11 a.m. Sept. 4.
Women in Agriculture group meets Thursday
The Scott County Women in Agriculture group will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Scott County USDA office in Benton, Mo.
Not all of the members of the group are involved in farming, but they do share an interest in gardening, cooking, family activities, helping the community, etc. Anyone with the same interests is free to attend the meeting.

Parents group to attend dance class, hold dance
Parents Without Partners will attend line dance lessons from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Circle S Saddle in Gordonville.
The group will sponsor a singles dance from 8 to 12 p.m. Saturday at VFW Hall in Cape Girardeau. The dance is open to the public. A fee applies.

Morton family reunion to be held in Jackson
The descendants of Olive and Pinkney Morton will hold a reunion at noon Sept. 7 at shelter 1 in Jackson City Park, near the tennis courts. Bring utensils, plates, drinks and a covered dish.
