Salvation Army offering meals this week
The Salvation Army, 701 Good Hope St. in Cape Girardeau, will be serving Meals with Friends from 4:30 to 6 p.m. today through Friday. Individuals are welcome to enjoy a hot meal at no cost. Menus are:
Monday: Macaroni and cheese with ham, green beans, peaches, bread and butter, cake or pie.
Tuesday: Pork with optional sauces, rice, mixed vegetables, pears, bread and butter, cake or pie.
Wednesday: Nacho grande with hamburger, lettuce, tomatoes, refried beans, jello with fruit, cake or pie.
Thursday: Scrambled eggs and sausage patty, biscuits and gravy, peaches, blueberries, danish rolls.
Friday: Turkey salad sandwiches, potato chips, apples, cake or pie.
Genealogical society holding annual social
The Cape Girardeau County Genealogical Society's annual social will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Riverside Regional Library in Jackson. This is an opportunity for members to become better acquainted and share progress on their genealogy research. Drinks and snacks will be provided; members and guests are invited. The society meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month. Nonmembers are welcome at all meetings. For more information, call Bill Eddleman at 335-1507.
Jackson Municipal Band concert set for next week
The Jackson Municipal Band will perform at 8 p.m. Aug. 5 at the band shell in Jackson City Park. Special guest for the evening will be Julie Walker. Those planning to attend should bring lawn chairs or blankets. The entrance to the band shell is on Route D.
Computers and poetry at Cape Girardeau library
Beginner computer training will be available from 11 a.m. to noon Aug. 10, 17 and 24 at the Cape Girardeau Public Library. The training is targeted at those with little or no experience in using computers.
The Poetry Coffee House will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 30 at the library. Participants share original compositions and read favorite poems of other writers. For more information, call 334-5279.
