Scott County Women in Agriculture to meet
The Scott County Women in Agriculture will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday at the USDA office on Highway 77 in Benton, Mo. A presentation on scrapbooking will be given with a workshop following the meeting. The group welcomes women interested in gardening, cooking, farming, family activities and community service aiming to educate others about agriculture. Senior information day to be held on Friday
Cape County SALT Council and Aging Committee will hold its annual senior information day from 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Friday in St. Mary's Cathedral gym, at the corner of William and South Sprigg streets in Cape Girardeau. The event will include information on identity theft, home safety and services for seniors. A free lunch will be offered to the first 100 people who register, and door prizes will be awarded. Sedgewickville School holding picnic Saturday
The Sedgewickville School picnic will be held in Sedgewickville City Park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Guests should bring a covered dish and tableware and are invited to bring photos and mementos they would like to share.
Bikers raising money for children's center
The SEMO Harley Owners Group will hold its annual poker run at 11 a.m. June 6 to raise money for Kenny Rogers Children's Center in Sikeston, Mo. The event will start and finish at Minor's Harley-Davidson in Cape Girardeau. A drawing will be held for a 2004 Harley-Davidson V-Rod, and a $1,000 gift certificate will be given out along with other gifts and prizes. For more information, call 334-7716.

SADI seeks donations for upcoming yard sale
Semo Alliance for Disability Independence Inc. is seeking donations of small appliances, household items and clean and wearable clothing from the community to be used for sale at its annual yard sale beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday, rain or shine. The proceeds benefit those with disabilities who cannot afford assistive devices that Medicare does not cover and subsidized transportation costs for SADI's shuttle service. Hospitals present award to Senate president
Senate President Pro Tem Peter Kinder, R-Cape Girardeau, accepted an award recognizing his support for children's health-care issues in Missouri. Representatives of Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital in St. Louis and St. Louis Children's Hospital presented the award to Kinder in his Capitol office.

Second-place winner in talent show from Kelso
Adam Reinagel of Kelso, Mo., recently won second place in the Heartland Talent contest held in Sikeston, Mo. Other winners were from Southeast Missouri. Heartland Talent promotes local talent and provides exposure to representatives from Mid-South Fair held in Memphis, Tenn., during the summer. Heartland Talent donates its proceeds to a different charity every year.

Olympics for the older set
The Southeast Missouri Senior Olympics will take place at the Perry Park Center in Perryville, Mo., from June 2 to 5. These games are for people ages 50 and over and will feature accuracy and distance throws, track and field, bowling, bingo, dinner and entertainment. For more information, call (573) 547-7275.
Adult summer reading program begins soon
Sign ups for the adult summer reading program, "Discovering New Tales @ Your Library" begins Tuesday. The program ends July 30. Participants will be asked to read books from seven genres.
At 1 p.m. Saturday, the national touring theatrical troupe "Activated Storytellers" will perform "Under Your Nose, Exploring the Obvious." The group uses American Sign Language in its 45-minute presentation, which will kick off the 2004 summer reading program and is suitable for all ages. The event is free and open to the public.
At 11 a.m. June 8, 15 and 22, a series of intermediate Internet training classes for those with basic knowledge of the Internet will be held. An optional hour from 12 to 1 p.m. is available for practice. Interested individuals should have mastered use of the mouse, have a basic understanding of the computer and how to access Web sites in addition to an e-mail account. Registration is required. At 2 p.m. Sunday, a historical program in the Hirsch Community Room about the Normandy invasion will be held. Veterans are invited to share stories. Other areas of the library will be closed.
At 7 p.m. June 28, poetry of the "beat generation" will be featured at the Poetry Coffee House held in the Hirsch Community Room. Readers and listeners are welcome. The event is free and open to the public.
