Supervisor to appear on 'Independently Speaking'
The next guest on "Independently Speaking" will be Terry Regenold, case management supervisor for The Sikeston Regional Center.
She will speak on the services the center offers to the region. This program will air on WDKA-TV, cable channel 17, at 5:30 a.m. Sunday and on cable access channel 5 at 7:30 p.m. April 15 and 29.
Military support group to meet at area hospital
A support group for families of those in the armed forces will meet at 7 p.m. May 2 at the Generations Center at Southeast Missouri Hospital. Family members of men and women who are serving in the nation's armed forces can join this group offered by the hospital.
Talent show to benefit St. Joseph Parish
The Apple Creek-style Hee Haw talent show, directed and written by Ray Sauer and his wife, Evelyn, will be performed at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Perry Park Center, Perryville. HeadStart preparing children for school
HeadStart is rounding up children ages 3 to 5 to attend their fall 2003 school year from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and from 1 to 4 p.m. April 16 at East Missouri Action Agency, 1111 Linden, Cape Girardeau. Refreshments and entertainment will be provided.

Caring council to hold annual breakfast
The Community Caring Council's annual breakfast and business meeting will be at 7:30 a.m. April 18 at the Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center, 1080 S. Silver Springs Road. Preregistration is required. Call the office at 651-3747 to register.
The council's annual report will be presented to the group. Recipients of the annual Mary Kasten and the Horizon awards will be announced. Election of council officers and board members will also take place. All individuals and member organizations are invited.
Workshop to cover using probate records
A workshop will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Cape Girardeau County Archive Center, 112 E. Washington, Jackson, on using probate records in family history research. The public is invited. Due to limited seating capacity, call 204-2331 to register. There is no charge.
March of Dimes WalkAmerica date set
WalkAmerica, one of the most successful walking events in the nation attracting nearly 1,000,000 walkers who raise money to fund research that saves babies' lives, will begin at 10 a.m. April 26 at the Common Pleas Courthouse lawn, Cape Girardeau. Dance and raffle to benefit Koehler family

Special Olympics track meet set for Saturday
Opening ceremonies for Special Olympics begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Central Junior High School track, 205 Caruthers, Cape Girardeau. Events will begin at 10:30 a.m.
The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Departments, Commerce Bank of Southeast Missouri, Zimmer Broadcasting, Noon Optimist Club, Kiwanis Club, Ahrens Appraisal Service, Southeast Missouri State University Greek Students and Cingular Wireless are sponsoring the Southeast Area Special Olympics Track and Field Meet.

Conservation campus groundbreaking set
Gov. Bob Holden will be among the VIPs speaking at the groundbreaking for the new conservation campus in Cape Girardeau at 10 a.m. Friday. The event is being held on the grounds of the conservation office on County Park Drive.
Rep. Jason Crowell, Department of Conservation director John Hoskins, Cape Girardeau County Presiding Commissioner Gerald Jones and former state representative Marvin Proffer will also say a few words to commemorate the start of construction.
Young Life members raising money for camp
Young Life, a Christian youth group open to all denominations, aims to earn money so members may go camping this summer. Students from Central High School and Jackson High School hope to go to a resort for high school students to see their faith in a new way.

Arts council accepting entries for exhibition
The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri in Cape Girardeau is accepting entries for its national exhibition. The competition is open to all artists 18 and older living in the United States. All artwork must be original in any medium and process. Slides must be received by May 9.
The selected art will be exhibited at the Arts Council's gallery from July 7 to 25. Cash prizes for best of show and other categories will be awarded by the juror. For more information, call 334-9233 or e-mail artscape@clas.net.
Easter will be subject of preschool story time
Preschool story time will be held at 9:30 a.m. April 15 at the Riverside Regional Library. The theme is Easter. The Easter bunny will be present.
Cape library group will discuss 'The Red Tent'
The Morning Book Discussion will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday in the Hirsch Community Room of the Cape Girardeau Public Library. "The Red Tent" by Anita Diamant is a fictional account based on the Biblical stories of Jacob's family, written from the viewpoint of Dinah, the daughter of Jacob and Leah. Readers will learn the customs of the day, the role of the sexes and the importance of the red tent.
Patrons may ask at the reference desk for a copy of the book. Accommodations for the disabled are available upon request.
