Riverside Regional Library announces story times
Story time at the Jackson branch of the Riverside Regional Library will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. The theme will be Groundhog Day. The themes of story time on Feb. 17 are Valentine's Day and Presidents Day. The theme of the Feb. 24 story time will be "Seeds of Kindness."
Sunday events for children set at SEMO
As part of "Sunday Afternoon Fun for Kids" at Southeast Missouri State University, three classes are being offered. A one-day acting workshop will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Feb. 8. Class is limited to 12 students ages 7 to 12. A six-hour, two-session pottery course lets children enjoy playing in the mud. The sessions are from 2 to 5 p.m. Feb. 29 and March 7. Class is limited to 12 students ages 8 to 12. "Making Spring Treats Together" will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. April 4 for six child/adult pairs. Adults must be 18 or over, children 8 to 12 years old. February events set at Cape public library
As part of a series exploring careers, the Cape Girardeau Public Library will present "I Can Be ... a Gardener" at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. Children 3 to 7 are invited monthly to experience stories, games and activities centered on individuals who make a difference. The guest will be Dortha Strack from Sunny Hill Nursery. At 3:30 p.m. Feb. 10, Pioneer Days will be held for children in grades three and four. They will make a quilt square and homemade treats and will listen to story excerpts from Laura Ingalls Wilder.
The library will be closed Feb. 16 in observance of Presidents Day.
At 2 p.m. Feb. 18, an informational program on cholesterol and heart disease will be given by Kathy Howell, a registered nurse of Southeast Hospital.
At 2 p.m. Feb. 19, the topic of Great Decisions will be "America in the New Century: George Bush, Presidential Leadership and the Election of 2004."
At 7 p.m. Feb. 23, the Poetry Coffee House will celebrate the birthday of Langston Hughes.
At 7 p.m. Feb. 24, the book discussion group participates in citywide United We Read 2004. Sam Blackwell will lead the discussion of "Tuesdays With Morrie" by Mitch Albom.
At 2 p.m. Feb. 26, the topic of Great Decisions will be "The Media and Foreign Policy."
Cape Girardeau County AARP chapter meets
The Cape Girardeau County Chapter of AARP will meet at 1:30 p.m. today at Grace United Methodist Church, Broadway and Caruthers, Cape Girardeau. The program will be "Guarding the President," presented by Paul Nenninger, a retired Secret Service agent.
Parents Without Partners sets February events
Parents Without Partners will attend line dance lessons from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays in February at Circle S Saddle in Gordonville.
Orientation will be held at Riverside Regional Library in Jackson from 7 to 7:30 p.m. Friday and again Feb. 20. A general meeting will follow this week's meeting.
At 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 29 the group will sponsor a scavenger hunt for family members.

The second meeting of Ethan and Friends for Autism will meet from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Feb. 26 at the University Center Party Room, fourth floor. Public parking available across the street.
