Noon Lions Club donates $2,000 to eye research

A donation of $2,000 was made to the Missouri Lions Eye Research Foundation by the Cape Girardeau Noon Lions Club. Programs benefitting from this donation include free glaucoma detection screening, an amblyopia screening program for Missouri children, eye-care assistance for Missourians without insurance or a means of obtaining eye care and a program that recycles used eyeglasses for transport overseas by humanitarian groups. Divorce seminar, support group starts this week

The winter session of DivorceCare meets for 13 weeks from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursdays, beginning this week, at Christ Presbyterian Church, 3037 Lexington Ave. in Cape Girardeau. This weekly seminar and support group is designed for individuals who are separated or divorced and in need of understanding, support, and information necessary to begin the healing process. DivorceCare is a ministry of Christ Presbyterian Church. For more information, call the church office at 334-6292. Registration will be accepted over the phone or on the night of the first meeting.

President, electoral college to be discussed

The League of Women Voters of Southeast Missouri will share information about U.S. presidential selection and the electoral college at 7 p.m. Jan. 19 in the Fellowship Hall of St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 804 N. Class offers adults basics of Spanish

Beginning Jan. 20, an eight-week beginning Spanish course for adults, taught by Notre Dame Regional High School foreign language teacher Donna Zahner, will be available at the high school starting Jan. 20. The class will meet from 7 to 8:45 p.m. on Tuesdays. The registration deadline is today. For more information, call Zahner at 335-6772. The course is not a comprehensive program but will enable participants to learn basic phrases useful when visiting Spanish-speaking ports of call.

Missouri Parents Act holding seminar

Missouri Parents Act, a nonprofit organization serving families of children with special needs, will hold an advocacy training seminar Feb. 17 at the Harry S. Truman Building in Jefferson City, Mo.
