The Cape Girardeau County commissioners discussed a memorandum of understanding they had with the City of Jackson at their Monday, July 29, regular meeting.
The understanding allows for the power of the new county jail in Jackson to be metered at the pole instead of at the building, meaning it will be the county’s responsibility to pay for electricity.
“Part of this agreement is just spelling that out, and then they offer a 2% discount in the rate of what are monthly bills are,” Associate Commissioner Paul Koeper said.
The commissioners also received four proposals for playground equipment and rubber mulch installation to renovate North Park and South Park.
Play and Park Structures submitted a $344,809.50 bid for the entire project. Landscape Structures submitted a $313,079 bid for North Park and a $39,123 bid for South Park.
All Inclusive’s bid included alternate plans for North Park at $310,000 and $315,000 and a $40,000 South Park plan. Hutchinson’s South Park bid was also $40,000, but its alternate North Park bids were only $301,750 and $315,000.
The commissioners said they would refer the proposals to the county’s Parks Department for review and recommendation.
In other business, they approved regional concrete supplier SEMO Ready Mix to provide concrete for shelter construction and renovations to Melaina’s Magical Playland at North Park. SEMO Ready Mix, the only bidder for the project, is charging $144 per yard of regular concrete and $148 per yard of Class B concrete intended for coarse-textured surfaces.
