The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission recently awarded a contract for improvements to Route V near Procter & Gamble in Cape Girardeau County. The $537,443 contract was awarded to M.K.G. Construction Company in Arnold, Mo.
This project includes widening Route V near the Route 177 intersection to include a left-turn lane and the addition of lighting. The roadway will also be replaced with new concrete pavement.
The Cape Girardeau Area Industrial Recruitment Association applied for special economic development funding through the Missouri Department of Transportation to fund the project last year. Special economic development funding is specifically earmarked for this sole purpose and cannot be used for any other type of projects.
Resident engineer Bob Wilson expects construction to begin this spring and be completed in mid-summer.
During construction, traffic on Route V will remain open, although a one-lane bypass will be used along a portion of the project. Motorists are encouraged to use extreme caution near the work zone.
For more information, contact Wilson at 243-0899 or call MoDOT's customer service center toll-free at (888) ASK-MODOT, or (888) 275-6636.
