Because of a low water level on the Mississippi River, the Dorena-Hickman Ferry will exclude commercial trucks from the Missouri-to-Kentucky crossing.
The low river level makes it difficult for trucks to move on and off the ferry at the Missouri landing. Commercial trucks that normally travel via the ferry will face a detour of up to 80 miles, depending on their destination, the Kentucky Transportation cabinet said.
The gauge level at Cairo, Ill., was at 8 feet Thursday. A reading of 13 feet is needed to transport heavy vehicles.
