COLUMBIA, Mo. — A Missouri newspaper that has been owned by the same family for 111 years is being sold to a national chain.
The Columbia Daily Tribune reported it is being purchased by GateHouse Media Inc., which owns 125 daily newspapers nationwide, including 14 in Missouri.
Terms of the sale, which will be finalized around Oct. 1, haven’t been disclosed.
Daily Tribune employees were informed of the sale Friday at a meeting with GateHouse executives and Tribune management.
GateHouse Western Division president Jason Taylor said the roughly 200 Tribune employees, other than publisher Vicki Russell and Tribune Publishing Co. president Andy Waters, will keep their jobs in the transition.
An interim publisher will be named on the day the sale closes.
The Waters family has owned the newspaper since 1905.
