Students and parents wishing to obtain information about educational or military options after high school should plan to attend the Regional College/Vocational School Fair today at the Show Me Center.

The fair is organized annually by high school counselors from throughout the region. Approximately 65 colleges, vocational schools and military services are expected to participate in the day-long event.

Jackson High School counselor Sarah Nussbaum said the event offers a better means of distributing information than the numerous college fairs hosted by individual schools.

"What we've done is develop this regional concept so we can reach a lot more students from surrounding areas," she said. "Previously, each school was hosting its own college fair and the universities and technical schools weren't able to attend them all. This way we effectively reach many more students."

Nussbaum said more than 1,000 students are expected to attend the event. Representatives from various universities and other organizations will be on hand to answer questions about services they provide and to distribute applications and financial aid information, she said.

There will be two sessions of the offered during the event, which is free of charge. Area schools will bring high school seniors to an afternoon session held from noon to 2:30 p.m. Interested parents may accompany their students in grades nine through 12 to an evening session scheduled from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
