Smith's Auction Co. will host its Summer Collector Car Auction on today and Saturday at the Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau.
About 300 cars will be sold at the auction, with about 100 being sold Friday, said Sherm Smith, founder of Smith's Auction Co.
"It's almost all classic cars," Smith said. In over 20 years of holding the auction, "this will be the largest consignment of cars we've ever had," he added.
Smith said the auction will feature cars from the 1940s to the 1970s and more.
One of the newer cars, a 2005 Ford GT from Sikeston, Missouri, with 7.3 miles on its odometer and factory stickers attached, received a phone bid for $260,000, Smith said. Smith said the model is rare because it was manufactured for only two model years.
The auction will run from 3 to 6 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, with doors opening at noon and 8 a.m., respectively. Admission is $8 for adults, and is free for children younger than 12.
