A Cobden, Ill., man has been indicted on charges of reckless homicide and aggravated driving under the influence of drugs related to a crash last month on Interstate 57 that killed an Anna, Ill., man.
A Union County grand jury Wednesday indicted Daniel J. Bible, 27, according to a new release issued Saturday by Union County State's Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds. Bible also was charged with driving while suspended and endangering a child.
On March 23, Bible's vehicle collided with a pickup truck pulling a cattle trailer, according to Illinois State Police. James Smith, 56, a passenger in the truck, suffered fatal injuries. Two other passengers were also injured. Bible and his 3-year-old passenger, who reportedly was not secured in a child restraint, were taken to Heartland Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, according to authorities.
Bible was arrested Friday night in Marion. He was being held at the Jackson County Jail on $150,000 bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday in the Union County Courthouse in Jonesboro, Ill.
