John Guild NSDAR

The October meeting of John Guild Chapter was held at Riverside Regional Library in Jackson. Pamela Johnson, regent, presided. Hostesses were Linda Hutson, Pam Friedrich and Kay Burford.

An informative program on pre-colonial life longhunters was presented by Wally Allstun, who showed the dress and weapons of the time as well as equipment the men of the period carried with them.

New member, Rebecca Chipman, was sworn in by chaplain Bonnie Macke and membership chairman Hutson. She was presented a DAR handbook as well as other DAR information.

Town and Country FCE Club

The Town and Country FCE Club met Nov. 14 at the home of Sue Jones. Jones, gave the devotion, "Sunshine of Joy" by Helen Steiner Rice. Pennies for "Coins for Friendship" were collected. Thank-you notes were received and read by Linda Thompson from Cottonwood Residential Treatment Center for Halloween treats and Parkview State School for the Halloween Party.

Jones reported she mailed the Christmas Cards for the Military. Karen Murphy, Lois Seabaugh, Donna Woolsey and Jones attended the leader training dessions in Farrar, Mo., on Nov. 1.

Members brought toys for the Jackson Police Department Toy Drive. Mary Klaproth will take the toys to a drop-off location in Jackson for distribution.

It was voted to give a contribution to the Salvation Army for the Thanksgiving meal and to the Salvation Army Tree of Lights.

Members were informed of the December Council Meeting to be held on Dec. 5 at the University of Missouri Outreach and Extension Education Center in Jackson. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. with the meeting starting at 10 a.m. Members were told to furnish an item for the silent auction for the meeting.

Darlene McCain presented the program on international foods. Also, "Hearth Fire 53, Someone's Asking...What is Chronic Pain? Hurting That Doesn't Go Away," was discussed with all members assisting.

The club's next meeting on Dec. 12 will be at Pagoda Gardens in Cape Girardeau, which will include a Christmas dinner at 6:30 p.m. Members are to bring secret pal gifts. Murphy will install the officers for 2014. Joyce King and Klaproth are in charge of arrangements. Members are to bring candy to fill Christmas treat sacks for the students at Cottonwood Residential Treatment Center to the Christmas Party.

Nancy Hunter Chapter NSDAR

The Nancy Hunter Chapter of the NSDAR meeting on Oct 23 was called to order by Charlotte Slinkard, regent. The meeting was held at the Cape Girardeau Public Library.

The ritual was led by Dorothy Points, chaplain. There were 12 members in attendance.

The President General's message was given by Catherine Allison. One of the President General's projects is to have NSDAR contribute one million hours of volunteer work through Celebrate America.

The National Defense Message was given by LaFern Stiver.

Ruth Lang gave the treasurer's report. The minutes of the meeting were recorded by Carol Robinson.

Stiver reported that a book, "Georgia Marriage Records," was donated to the Cape Girardeau Public Library by Carolyn Webb.

Sue La Bruyere reminded members to save Campbell Soup labels and other labels for DAR schools.

A motion was made by Points for the Chapter to present a Missouri State Flag to the Cape River Heritage Museum in memory of member, Marie Oliver. The motion was seconded by Allison. The motion carried.

Slinkard mentioned that stories are needed for the state DAR Memorial book.

Points celebrated her 90th birthday on Oct. 10 and received a proclamation from the city of Cape Girardeau.

Lang presented a program showing members how to navigate the DAR website.
