The Nancy Hunter Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution met at Old St. Vincent's Church on Sept. 24. Regent Charlotte Slinkard presided over the meeting.
The regent read a message from Lynn Forney Young, the newly elected president general of NSDAR. The theme of this administration is "Honoring our Heritage -- Focusing on the Future -- Celebrating America." One of Young's goals is for the membership to collectively give 1 million hours of service annually to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism.
Reports were given by chapter officers and committee chairmen. The executive board met during the summer and approved the appointment of Carolyn Cannon to fill the office of historian.
LaFern Stiver, librarian, reported that the book, "A Research Guide: Georgia Marriage Records," donated to the chapter by Carolyn Webb, will be presented to the Cape Girardeau Public Library.
Thelma Baker Stone, a 40-year member of DAR, was recognized by the chapter and presented with a membership certificate.
Following the business meeting the group toured the main sanctuary of Old St. Vincent's Church before adjourning for an afternoon dessert at a downtown restaurant.
