The New McKendree United Methodist Women met Tuesday in the church fellowship hall with 25 members present. Mary Klaproth, president, opened the meeting by leading the group in the reciting of the UMW Purpose.
Klaproth called attention to the hand cross-stitched art work depicting the UMW Emblem and Purpose. This framed piece of work was done by Doris Dace and given UMW to hang in the meeting room.
The minutes were read by Gale King, secretary, and Marilyn Fronabarger gave the treasurer's report. They were approved.
Bernetta Davis with Zion United Methodist UMW of Gordonville, was introduced as the new shepherdess. Shirley Patterson presented her with a mission ribbon. Patterson also gave ribbons to first-time members, Mary Robertson, Margee McGee and Nora Speight.
Edith Eggers, secretary of program resources, asked for help in delivering used books from the church library to the fall district meeting in Kennett, Mo. These books will be sold there.
In Pat Lynn's absence, Tina Crites gave a reading.
Items for the food pantry will be the project for Social Action in October.
Elwanda Corbin moved that UMW provide any money needed for postage to mail the school kits. Crites seconded. The motion passed.
Klaproth announced that a new circle has been formed of women basically attending the South Campus service. Tabitha's Treasures is their name and Marie Justus is the chairperson.
The annual UMW meeting will be held Sept. 28 and 29 at the Arlington United Methodist Church in Bridgeton, Mo.
The fall district meeting will be held Oct. 13 at the First United Methodist Church in Kennett, Mo. Registration is due by Oct. 6. The church van is reserved. Lunch is $6 payable the day of the meeting. The program will be presented by the Susanna Wesley learning Center in East Prairie, Mo.
Mary and Martha Circle won the attendance ribbon with nine members present.
The Ester Circle hosted the Jackson Manor Birthday party Tuesday and the Mary and Martha Circle will host in October.
The Mission team will meet at 1 p.m. Sept. 24 to set up the budget for 2013 and to assemble school kits.
Dace gave a program about Susanna Wesley.
The meeting closed with a reading from the Prayer Calendar. A salad luncheon followed the meeting.
