St. Mary CWC

The St. Mary Council of Catholic Women met in the Monsignor Huels Room for a covered-dish supper on Sept. 16.

Anyone interested in attending the Missouri Catholic Conference in Jefferson City, Mo., on Saturday should contact Judy Stricker.

Church Women United representative LaWana Wulfers announced that 44 school kits and two family food boxes were turned in at the Awareness Luncheon held on Friday at New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson. Blanket Sunday will be held on Oct. 24.

The Region 7 meeting was held Tuesday at Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Oran, Mo.

"Shoes of orphan souls" will be collected from Oct. 17 through Nov. 7. New shoes, socks and shoestrings in all sizes for ages infant to age 18, male and female, are needed.

The Oct. 21 meeting will feature George Howe and Nancy King sharing memories of their travels to Prague.

Sons of the American Revolution

The September meeting of the Sons of the American Revolution was held at the Branding Iron Bar-B-Q in Jackson Sept. 20.

President Wendell Miller presented Ron Beasley with a sixth supplemental certificate naming Alexander Giboney as a descendant. Giboney was one of the founders of Cape Girardeau at the time of Louis Lorimier and was present at the battle of Bradock's. Giboney was also related to Gen. Dan Morgan of Revolutionary War fame. Thomas English is Beasley's original ancestor. English was wounded at the battle of Eutaw Springs, S.C. He is buried in the English cemetery just off Bloomfield Road in Cape Girar-deau. Beasley is currently researching for proof that English was present at the Valley Forge winter camp with George Washington.

The next meeting will be at 6 p.m. on Oct. 18 at Dexter Bar-B-Q in Cape Girardeau. Anyone wishing to research their ancestors back to the Revolutionary War is welcome to attend the meeting or contact Leon Lefler at 335-6778.

Young Americans 4-H Club

The Young Americans 4-H Club met Thursday at Grace United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau. The meeting was called to order by Clint Heuer, president. Zachary and Nathan Schneider led the pledges. Those with September birthdays were recognized. Micayla Gray led a song. Julia Weber read the minutes of the last meeting and the treasurer's report was given by Michael Weber. Project meeting reports were given on crafts, beef and gardening.

Ann Kinsey reported that the club's fund raiser was very successful, having sold 199 pizza/ cookie dough kits. Prizes for top sales were awarded. First place went to the Kinsey family; second place went to the Yuede family; and third place went to the Strack and Schabbing families. Little Caesars Activity maps were given to all participants.

A Halloween costume party will be held at the Schweer's home on Oct. 29 at 6:30 p.m. Each member may bring a guest.

To celebrate 4-H Sunday, members and their families will attend the 10:30 a.m. service at Zion United Methodist Church in Gordonville on Oct. 17. A potluck dinner will follow.

A bake sale will be held at Sunny Hill Gardens from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Marjorie Swan donated a quilt for a countywide raffle. Proceeds from the raffle will be used for the new 4-H facility to be built at the fairgrounds in Arena Park.

Members were reminded to bring Christmas cards for the military to the October meeting.

Demonstrations were given by B.J. Heuer, "Tools used for grooming a horse," and Clint Heuer, "Basic parts of the English bridle."

Amy Kirchdoerfer led the installation of officers ceremony. The new officers are: Leslie Birk, president; Tori Schweer, vice president; Micayla Gray, secretary; Clint Heuer, treasurer; B.J. Heuer and Gavin Seyer, game leaders; Blake Telle and Julia Weber, song leaders; and Annie Yuede and Nathan Schneider, Clover Kid song leaders.

Following the meeting, B.J. Heuer led a game.

Alpha Mu Master

Alpha Mu Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met at the home of Gwen Nussbaum for the first regular meeting of the new chapter year. The meeting was conducted by Linda Metheny, president.

Thank-you notes for recent donations were received from Birthright and the Relay for Life cancer fund.

A report was given on the All-Chapter Beginning Day held on Aug. 30 at Francine's Gardens.

Possible events and service projects for the new year were discussed.

Information was received for convention sweat shirts for the 2005 Missouri State Convention to be held in Cape Girardeau in October 2005. Sweat shirt orders will be finalized at the next regular meeting.

Some chapter members will be attending the 2004 Missouri State Convention in St. Louis, Mo., Oct. 22 through 24. Attending members will wear the 2005 convention sweatshirts at this year's convention.

Aaron Andrews of Ruopp Chiropractic & Associates was introduced by Nussbaum as the guest speaker for the evening.

The next meeting will be at the home of Charlotte Bess.
