Oak Ridge Homemakers FCE Club helps monthly with bingo games at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau. During the last year the club donated 25 afghans to the home. Town and Country FCE Club

An international dinner was the highlight of the Town and Country FCE Club meeting Sept. 12 at the home of Sue Jones, with Mary Klaproth and Lois Seabaugh assisting on the international committee.

The meal consisted of dishes from India prepared by members and included Indian chicken curry, cabbage palya, spinach, red lentil and bean curry, stuffed peppers, raita, poppy onion biscuits, rose ice cream and chia tea. Jones prepared booklets containing the recipes, along with the history, map and flag of India for each member.

The program on India was presented by Pragna Sadula and Vamshi Sadula, sister and brother from Hyderabad, India, who are graduate students at Southeast Missouri State University. They presented a program regarding facts and the culture of India. In addition, all members were given information regarding India.

Jones presided and members repeated the pledges to the United States and Missouri Flags. The devotion was given by Jones on "The world would be a nicer place if we traveled at a slower pace." Roll call was answered by stating a fact about India. Pennies for "Coins for Friendship" were collected. Members were reminded to participate in the September calendar. A thank-you note was read from Cottonwood Residential Treatment Center for the start of school party. Members brought bingo prizes for the Lutheran Home.

Klaproth will attend the annual MAFCE Conference to be held Sept. 18 through 20 in Jefferson City, Mo.

The fall district meeting will be Oct. 10 in Doniphan, Mo., hosted by Ripley County. Some members plan to attend, and the club will furnish a centerpiece to be given later as a door prize. Those attending are to bring a silent auction item.

Members will bring Christmas cards for the military and candy for Halloween treat sacks for the students at Cottonwood Cemter to the Oct. 10 meeting.

NAFCE Week will be celebrated by planting a tree or shrub at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson, and attending the 9 a.m. worship service at New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson Oct. 13. The group will go out to eat after the service.

The next weighted blanket work day for TouchPoint Autism Center is 9 a.m. Oct. 14. Club out will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Napoli's Restaurant in Jackson.

The next meeting will be 7 p.m. Oct. 10 hosted by Joyce King. The program on autism will be presented by Linda Thompson.

Xi Nu Phi

The Xi Nu Phi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Tuesday at the home of Susan Benton.

President Renee Hesselrode reported that the chapter received a three-star rating from international and it will be placed in the scrapbook. She also received insurance information if the chapter is interested in purchasing it.

The chapter voted in favor of continuing the Exemplar Preceptor city-wide event.

Updated yearbook pages and the 2013-2014 meeting schedule were handed out.

The next social is line dancing class Oct.10.

Scrapbook items were turned in and secret pal gifts distributed.

Benton presented the program on "Building edible fire rings" from a project her daughter, Abby, had done when she was in Girl Scouts.

The next meeting will be Oct. 1 at the home of Sue Harris.
