Town and Country FCE club met Sept. 11 at University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson. Lois Seabaugh was hostess.
The meeting was called to order by Linda Thompson, president. The devotion given by the hostess was "Three Trees." Roll call given by Darlene McCain was answered with "How To Stretch Food Dollars." Minutes from the previous meeting were read and approved. Mary Klaproth gave the treasurer's report and collected Pennies for Friendship.
During the business session Thompson thanked members who had helped deliver a back-to-school ice cream party at Cottonwood Treatment Center Aug. 18. Plans were also made to bring candy for Halloween treat bags for Cottonwood to be delivered in October. Plans will be finalized at the October meeting.
Seabaugh reported on the Vice President Leader Training planning meeting held Aug. 21 in Perry County. Donna Woolsey, Seabaugh and Klaproth attended the meeting. The Fall Leader Training meeting will be held Nov. 14 at the former Lutheran School building in Farrar, Missouri. The spring meeting has been planned for April 12 at the extension center. Members are to fill out registration forms for the November meeting and send them to the extension center by Nov. 5.
Klaproth reported that she will attend the MAFCE meeting in Osage Beach, Missouri, Oct. 1 to 3. A report will be given at the next meeting.
Southeast FCE Fall District meeting will be held Oct. 22 at the United Methodist Church in Sedgewickville, Missouri. Registration due by Oct. 13. Cost of the meeting is $15. Each member is to bring an item for a silent auction. Door prizes will be furnished by Lamplighter and Oak Ridge FCE clubs.
A brief report was given by members who attended the Cape County Extension Council meeting in September. Officers were elected.
The president announced that NAFCE week will be held Oct. 12 to 18. Activities by members during this week will be to plant two shrubs at the extension center, attend the 10:45 a.m. service Oct. 12 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson as a group, and have lunch together after the service.
Club members planned a trip to St. Louis for Oct. 6 to tour the arch and visit Missouri Botanical Gardens.
Members voted to change the time for meetings from 7 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. during the winter months, and revisiting the issue in March 2015 with the arrival of daylight saving time.
The program, "Eating Better for Less Dollars" was given by McCain. Hearth Fire Series 57, "Someone's Asking, How Can We Stretch Our Food Budget?" was read by members.
Club out will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Delmonico's.
The Oct. 9 meeting will be at 6:30 p.m., with Joyce King as hostess. The program will be given by Karen Murphy on "Gluten-Free Foods."
Cape Girardeau County FCE Council
The Cape Girardeau County FCE Council met Sept. 4 at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson. The meeting was called to order by Shirley Palen, president. The devotion, "What is in your hand?" was given by Lamplighters Club. Roll call was answered by 14 council members.
The minutes of the June council meeting were read by Mary Klaproth, secretary. The treasurer's report was given by Jean Rehak. Both reports were approved.
Mary Gosche passed out brochures detailing a new Grand Family Conference for grandparents and other caregivers raising children titled "Grandparents in the 21st Century" which is to be held 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 7 at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. Lunch will be provided, but registration should be completed by Sept. 30.
Klaproth reported from the tour committee that attendance for the trip to The Muny in August was not well-attended and members may want to reconsider whether they want the trips to continue. After discussion it was decided to wait until the new schedule for next year is known to make a decision.
After a short discussion detailing the differences in duties of the president-elect and vice president, the following officers for 2015 were elected: Barbara Barks, president elect; Klaproth, recording secretary; and Jean Rehak, treasurer.
Dortha Strack reported that the scholarship committee had received only three applications from the 20 forms mailed out.
Gosche related that the new extension booth at SEMO District Fair had good participation this year, with many activities for children being provided.
Rehak reminded members to mail the membership forms to her soon and include on the forms the four numbers following town zip codes.
The next meeting will be Dec. 4 at the extension center.
