An international dinner of foods from Thailand was the highlight of the Town and Country FCE Club meeting on Sept. 10 at the home of Sue Jones. Mary Klaproth, Darlene McCain and Jones were on the international committee. Jones prepared booklets containing recipes of the food served, along with the history, map and flag of Thailand, for each member. Klaproth made small Thailand flags and placed them at each table setting, along with a larger flag in the center of the table. A program on Thailand was presented.
McCain, president, presided over the business meeting. Jones gave the devotion, "God's Good Gifts." Pennies for "Coins for Friendship" were collected.
Klaproth and McCain gave a report on the recent quarterly FCE Council meeting held on Sept. 3. It was announced the fall district meeting will be on Oct. 13, hosted by Perry County in Brazeau, Missouri. Members brought bingo prizes for The Lutheran Home which were delivered on Tuesday.
Members are to bring Christmas cards on Oct. 8 to be mailed to the military. Also, members will bring Halloween candy to fill treat sacks for the students at Cottonwood Residential Treatment Center. Members will host a Halloween party for the students at Parkview State School in October, with the date and time to be announced at the meeting.
National FCE Week, which is Oct. 11 through 17, will be observed by the club by planting a tree or shrub at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson. The club will attend the 8:30 a.m. worship service at First Baptist Church on Oct. 11 and then go to brunch at Delmonico's.
Club out will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Gordonville Grill.
The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 8 at the home of Donna Woolsey. Linda Thompson will present the program on holistic medicine.
The Cape Girardeau County Quarterly FCE Council met Sept. 3 at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson. Shirley Palen, president, presided over the business meeting. Darlene McCain read a reading about "Turning 80." Members were reminded to turn in their membership forms and dues for 2016.
Mary Klaproth reported 30 people signed up to see the musical "My Fair Lady" on June 16. However, the musical was rained out, but everyone received a refund for the cost of the ticket.
Inez Statler, chairperson of the nomination committee, presented the following slate of officers for 2016-2017: Darlene McCain, vice president, member of Town and Country FCE Club, and Sarah Ross, corresponding secretary, member of Kage FCE Club. They were approved and will assume their duties on Jan. 1. Barbara Barks, president elect, and Palen appointed Peggy Barks to continue for another two years as public relations officer. She accepted the appointment.
Klaproth gave a report on attending the National Association for Family and Community Education Conference in Blue Springs, Missouri, July 23 through 26. JoAnn Hahs also attended from Cape Girardeau County. The theme was "Stepping Stones to Success." Missouri received second place in education and third place in action. Missouri received second place in the brochures for education and action. Three new Hearth Fire's were introduced at the meeting. The next conference will be hosted by Tennessee in Memphis on July through 17, 2016.
The scholarship committee report was given by Dortha Strack. The deadline to apply is Oct. 15 and the scholarship is in the amount of $300.
The essay and artwork material will be mailed to Marilyn Retherford, chairperson.
Mary Gosche and Statler gave a report on the program planning meeting held on Aug. 14. Leader training meetings will be held at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson either on April 4 or April 11. The lessons will include healthy salads, reverse mortgages, fairy gardening, small steps to health and wealth, who gets grandma's yellow pie plate and technology.
The MAFCE 2015 Annual Conference was discussed. The conference will be held Oct. 1 and 2 at the Inn at Grand Glaize in Osage Beach, Missouri. The theme of the conference is "FCE Shines at 79." Barbara Barks, Peggy Barks, Betty Dellinger, Hahs, Klaproth and McCain are planning to attend. Barbara Barks will purchase an item for the country store.
Hahs, Southeast District director, announced the fall district meeting will be hosted by Perry County in Brazeau, Missouri, on Oct. 13. Kage and Lamplighers FCE Clubs will furnish centerpieces for the meeting to later be given as door prizes.
Palen appointed a committee of Klaproth, Hahs and Barbara Barks to review the Constitution of Cape Girardeau County for FCE with recommended changes to be amended. The committee is to report at the quarterly FCE Council meeting on Dec. 3.
Hahs announced a work day is scheduled on Oct. 29 to make weighted blankets for autism patients. This year 109 blankets, 31 lap pads and 10 snakes have been made and given to autism patients. The work day will be held at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson.
The next quarterly council FCE meeting will be on Dec. 3 at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson, hosted by the Oak Ridge FCE Club.
