Missouri Retired Teachers
The Missouri Retired Teachers met Sept. 10 at Chateau Girardeau.
The program was on Lewis and Clark's Commemorative tour presented by Jane Randol Jackson, director of the Cape County Archive Center.
The next meeting will be Oct. 1 at Chateau Girardeau. The program will be by Jack Smoot on the Bollinger Mill Historical Site.
Alpha Mu Master
The Alpha Mu Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Sept. 8 at the home of Carole Calvin for a potluck meal and meeting.
President Marsha Parrish presided over the business meeting. She gave a final report on the All-Chapter Beginning Day Banquet. A report was also given on the Beta Sigma Phi state convention to be held in Jefferson City, Mo., Oct. 24 through 26. Representing Alpha Mu Master will be Judie Herbst, Bobbie Woodard, Linda Metheny, Bernie Garner, Joyce Hays and Calvin.
Woodard reported the chapter will attend the play "A Midsummer Night's Dream" on Oct. 30 at Forrest H. Rose Theatre on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University.
A joint program on the history of Cape Girardeau was given by Calvin and Hays.
Hays will host the next meeting to be held Sept. 22 at 7 p.m.
Scottish Rite Men's Club
The Scottish Rite Men's Club met Sept. 10 with a potluck dinner. Harold Coarse opened the meeting.
The speaker was A.J. Hendershott of the Missouri Conservation Department telling about the new conservation building to be built at Cape County Park.
The next meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 8 in the lower level of the Masonic Lodge.
FCE State Conference
The 67th annual conference of the Missouri Association for Family and Community Education was held Sept. 3 through 5 at the Holiday Inn Select in Columbia, Mo. Cape Girardeau County club members attending were Opal Collins, Nelda Crader, Jobyna Daume, Linda Farrow, Sue Jones, Mary Klaproth, Darlene McCain, Ruth Pohlman, Linda Thompson and Margie Swan.
Dr. Jo Britt-Rankin, University of Missouri-Columbia advisor, presented the proclamation from Gov. Bob Holden that proclaimed Oct. 13 through 19 as the National Family and Community Education Week.
MAFCE state scholarships were given to six grassroots members, including McCain from Cape Girardeau County. Thompson, Collins and Crader accepted for Marilyn Retherford, and Pohlman received awards for Cape Girardeau County reports for program of works. Klaproth received the Missouri Heart of FCE Award and was elected to serve on the Missouri Foundation for FCE.
Margaret Mai, NAFCE president, held leadership training on "Are bullies for real?" She also installed the 2004 officers.
American Legion Auxiliary
The American Legion Auxiliary's September meeting was held at the SEMO District Fair. Members brought school supplies to be taken to Jefferson Elementary School by education chairman Marilyn Ritter.
The auxiliary has been asked to serve refreshments to the Just Say No to Drugs Club at Jefferson Elementary School.
Commander John Powers reported on the progress of the new post home. The floor has been poured, so soon the building will go up.
John Coffman won the quilt raffle. Patsy Kimbrel donated the quilt for the building fund. She also matched the amount of the quilt tickets sold. She presented Powers with a check.
The Oct. 8 meeting will be a covered dish meal at noon, 1015 Haddock.
Town & Country FCE
Town & Country FCE met Sept. 11 in the meeting room of the Extension Center in Jackson. Carolyn Thompson was hostess for the international dinner and program on Tasmania. Barbara Lorberg gave a program on the country, sharing pictures and memories of her trip. Thompson presided over the business meeting. She also gave a report on the state meeting held in Columbia, Mo.
The club won a blue ribbon for its booth at the SEMO District Fair.
In observance of FCE Week Oct. 12 through 17, the club will plant a tree on the grounds of the Extension Center at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
The Fall District meeting will be held in Longtown, Mo., on Oct. 8. Darlene McCain and Shirley Heise will attend.
The club will hold a garage sale on Nov. 8 at the Osage Centre in Cape Girardeau.
The Oct. 9 meeting will be at the home of Margie McAnnally. Members should bring Christmas cards to be sent to the military and a baby picture.
Lamplighters FCE
The Lamplighters FCE met Aug. 21 at the home of Sharon Bogenpohl. Linda Sebaugh, president, opened the meeting.
Annual dues were collected. Plans were discussed regarding the upcoming December Council meeting which will be hosted by the Lamplighters Club.
A program on financial planning was given by Teresa Hinkebein.
This month's meeting will be held at the home of Gayla Volz.
