Cape Girardeau County FCE
The Cape Girardeau County FCE Clubs held their quarterly meeting Sept. 5 at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson. Jo Ann Hahs presided. There were 13 members and a guest, Mary Gosche from the extension center.
Hahs led the group in Club Collect. The devotion was given by Verla Mangles from Lamplighters Club with a poem, "Attitude of Gratitude" and a poem from Psalms on Good Motto.
Mary Klaproth read the minutes from the previous meeting, with no correction.
Jean Rehak gave the treasurer's report and gave a sheet to all present. She announced that all clubs yearly dues are needed Oct. 1 and the new forms should be used.
Committee reports: Correspondence was given by Klaproth and she also gave a report on the tour committee with the last tour being a trip to see "Nunsence" in St. Louis on July 2, with 35 attending of which nine were FCE members.
Scholarship committee report was given by Dortha Strack who mailed out 20 applications which are due Oct. 15. The recipient will receive a $300 scholarship. Those with questions about the scholarship may call Strack at 334-5693.
Inez Statler reported the nominating committee had two openings for 2014. Nominated for vice president was Mariesa Lesch, and Barbara Barks as correspondence secretary, both from Oak Ridge Club. Both were approved to serve.
Unfinished business: a report on National FCE meeting in Fargo, N.D., was given by Klaproth. Several changes will be made for the following year with youth under the age of 18 may become members for $5. The 2014 national meeting will be held in Arizona and state FCE meeting will be in Blue Springs.
Fall leadership training will be Nov. 1 at Salem Lutheran School in Farrar, Mo. Seminars are: A Taste of Mental Health First Aid by Mary Gosche; Herb Gardening by Donna Aufdenberg; What to do with Chronic Pain by Dr. James E. Palen; and Crockpot Cooking and Food Safety by Bethany Schindler Bachmann. RSVP by Oct. 25 to Cape Girardeau County Extension Office by calling 243-3581.
Hahs announced Oct. 14 will be Autism Sewing Day for all Cape County FCE clubs. It was announced that Oak Ridge member, Frances Jenkins, made 71 blankets while off this summer from her job at Southeast Missouri State University.
Missouri State FCE meeting will be Sept. 18 through 20, with several members attending from various clubs.
Hahs announced she will need pictures from all clubs to make a tri-fold for the meeting.
The Fall District meeting will be Oct. 10 at the Assembly of God Church in Doniphan, Mo., with a cost of $10 per person.
Hahs ask Barbara Barks to buy a gift for the Country Store and take to the state meeting.
Oak Ridge Homemakers
Oak Ridge Homemakers FCE Club met Aug. 20 with President Nelda Crader opening the meeting. All members participated in the international meal from the country of India with varies food items.
Pat Hecht gave the devotion with a poem by Helen Steiner Rice "God grant us hope, faith and love" and "God is never beyond our reach" by Mary E. Harrington.
Get-well cards were sent to Carol Jo Byrd and Ruby Hitt.
Roll call was a foreign word and its meaning with 13 members and one guest present.
Mariesa Lesch gave a program on the country of India; she gave many interesting fasts of the people and their heritage and lifestyle.
Barbara Barks and Peggy Barks showed how to make an India Sari which took seven yards of material.
July and August projects for the club was to present Jefferson Elementary School in Cape Girardeau with items they needed for their children. Lee Anderson, Barbara Barks, Peggy Barks, Betty Dellinger met with Jamie Jones, parent liaison.
Rehak announced that membership dues must be turned in before Oct. 1.
Quarterly council meeting was held Sept. 5 at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson.
The annual MAFCE Conference in Jefferson City, Mo., is scheduled for Sept. 18 through 20 at the Capitol Plaza Hotel. Those who plan to attend from Oak Ridge Club are Barbara Barks, Peggy Barks and Betty Dellinger.
Plans are being made for the annual garage sale Oct. 3 and 4. Funds received from the sale will be used to purchase items for Christmas give-away along with the Elks Club for Jackson, who give out the food baskets to those in need. The sale will be in the lower level of Jackson Elks Lodge on Route D.
A committee was formed to seek 2014 officers. Those members are Nelda Crader, Billie Criddle, Peggy Barks and Jean Rehak.
Pennies for Friendship and the flower fund were collected.
