Xi Nu Phi

The Xi Nu Phi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Sept. 1 at the home of Susan Benton, president. She led the meeting with seven members present.

The minutes from the last meeting were approved as read.

The main topic of discussion was the chapter's responsibilities for the state convention that will be held Oct. 9 through 11 in Cape Girardeau.

The program was looking through an Alpha Rho Chapter scrapbook from the 1985 State Convention, when it was also held in Cape Girardeau.

The next meeting will be held Sept. 15 at the home of Cathy Pancoast.

New McKendree UMW

The New McKendree United Methodist Women met Sept. 1 in the church fellowship hall with 21 members and six guests present. The meeting was called to order by Mary Klaproth, president. She introduced five guests from New Salem United Methodist Church in Daisy and Bernetta Davis from Zion United Methodist Church at Gordonville. The unit recited the UMW Purpose.

The minutes from the previous meeting were read by Pam Buck, secretary, and approved. Treasurer Marilyn Fonabarger was absent, but Klaproth reported the profits from the UMW yard sale had been given to the church.

Chairperson reports:

Program resources: In Marcia Eggers' absence, Klaproth reminded members that all reading program reports will need to turned in to her.

Spiritual growth: Julie Combs gave the devotion titled "Giving Love to the Least of These."

Social action: Klaproth reported for Donna Mason that the September offering is the school kits and October is World Thank offering. Also, $181.86 was received from the summer produce sales to be used for postage for the school kits.

Education and interpretation: Shirley Patterson reminded members that the Mini Mission will be held at the Van Buren, Missouri, United Methodist Church Sept. 12. The topics will be "Created for Happiness" and "Latin America: People and Faith."

Membership: Bonnie Blechle has visited the Manor. Let her know if any cards need to be sent.

Bereavement: Blechle reported three meals had been served over the summer to the families of Dale Smith, Iola Amelunke and Edith Eggers.

Dates to remember:

Mini Mission U: Sept. 12 at Van Buren UMC. The church van will leave the church parking lot at 7:30 a.m.

Annual UMW Meeting: Sept. 25 and 26 at the Farmington, Missouri, United Methodist Church.

Fall District Meeting: Oct. 17 at the Sikeston, Missouri, United Methodist Church. Lunch will be served for $6.

The Esther Circle won the attendance ribbon.

There has been a change in date for the Jackson Manor birthday party. The party will be held the second Monday of each month, but at the same time, 1:45 p.m.

The ShareFest kits need to be turned in to the church by Sept. 21. They will be delivered to Dexter, Missouri, on Sept. 26 by some of the youth group.

It was decided to have a Mission Team meeting at 1 p.m. Sept. 21. Next year's budget will be discussed and the school kits will be assembled.

The nominating committee will present a slate of officers at the Oct. 13 meeting. The Mission Team will be in charge of refreshments.

Klaproth read an invitation from Grace United Methodist Women to the first annual county-wide dinner of United Methodist Women at 6 p.m. Oct. 6 at Grace United Methodist Church. Reservations are to be sent to Barbara Miller by Sept. 25. The cost of the meal is $6.

Doris Dace gave a program on The Bahamas. The program was followed by a salad luncheon.
